A 70-year-old woman was murdered in Pedagantyada, Gajuwaka, under the New Port Police station limits on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as B. Mahalakshmi.
According to New Port Police Station SHO Srinivasa Rao, two unidentified persons posing as husband and wife had come to her about two days ago under the garb of tenants who were interested in taking a portion in the first floor for rent.
The same persons had come on Thursday, and requested the victim to break a coconut in the proposed rented portion, symbolising an auspicious beginning. As no one was present in the house at that time, they strangled her and made good with the ear rings, by cutting off both her ears.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating the case.
