Stating that cement dealers were already contemplating a hike in rates, he said that vegetables and essential goods are beyond the reach of common man. Limiting LPG gas cylinders to only six per year is the most deplorable move, he said, adding that the common man is more harassed now than in the British Raj. Women wing members of the Opposition Parties pointedout the negligence of the UPA Government towards the auto and other transport services. The additional cylinder will cost Rs 750 and if a family is a big one, they have to shell out more money as they have to take extra cylinders as six may not sufficient for their needs. The government hiked Rs 5 per litre of diesel and this would lead to hike in transport charges too. FAPI demands waiver of VAT on diesel

Mr. BV Rama Rao, president, The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Industries (FAPI) has demanded the government to immediately waive the VAT on diesel to be used for captive power generation and other needs immediately. Speaking to newsmen on Friday at a press conference, he further deanded to release a GO offering 25 per cent subsidy to purchase diesel sets for captive power generation and stop collecting Rs 250 per KVA being collected in the name of power demand charges despite acute power crisis. The industrial sector in Andhra Pradesh was on the verge of closure due to the faulty policies of the government, which resulted in acute power crisis, the first time in the history of the State. With the lack of LPG supply, all the nine gas-based power projects were not able to generate power, which further compounded the problem. State Government has neglecting alternative power sources like solar and wind, which was being encouraged in Gujarat and Tamilnadu. Pointing out the three-day power holidays to the industrial sector and regular peak load restrictions between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm, the managements were not able to pay even wages to the workers with the continuous loss of production, which may also lead to lay-offs and lockouts shortly. In this connection, the federation will conduct a series of meetings involving government officials, MPs, MLAs and industrialists on September 11 in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati on September 22, Warangal on September 25 and Hyderabad on September 27 to chalk out future course of action whether to run the industries or to close them till the power problem is redressed. Industrialists Mr. S. Ramanujam, Mr. Y Sambasiva Rao and Mr. Balaji were also present.
