VICE ADMIRAL ANIL CHOPRA TAKES OVER AS THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND

Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, AVSM took over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command at a Ceremonial Parade held at the Naval Base here today, 31 Oct 11. Vice Admiral Chopra inspected the Ceremonial Guard and reviewed platoons of Naval personnel drawn from various ships and establishment of the Eastern Naval Command. The Parade was commanded by Commander Aasheesh Khanna, Executive Officer, INS Jalashwa and comprised 24 platoons. Flag Officers, Commanding Officers, a large number of officers, sailors and their families witnessed the Parade. The Eastern Seaboard has grown in prominence over the years, as is witnessed by the enhanced interaction with our immediate regional neighbours like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and other states of South East Asia. Commissioning of new LST (L)s, FACs, Air Squadrons, Air Stations and launch of the first indigenous strategic submarine at Visakhapatnam have all firmly placed the Eastern Naval Command on the center stage, in consonance with the Look East Policy of our country. Admiral Chopra takes over the prestigious Command from Vice Admiral Anup Singh who would be retiring today. Admiral Chopra had been associated with ENC earlier, in the capacity of the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command. It was during this tenure in Feb 06 that Visakhapatnam was witness to the prestigious Presidents Fleet Review, a maiden venture on the Eastern Seaboard and a feather in the cap for the Command as well as the City. Vice Admiral Anup Singh was given a fond farewell by the officers and men of Eastern Naval Command, following his retirement from service after a distinguished career spanning over 38 years. During Admiral Anup Singhs tenure a number of new acquisitions and infrastructural development took place which added to the three dimensional capability of the Navy. Fast Attack Craft INS Cora Divh, Cheriyam, Kondul, Cankarso and Koswari adding teeth to the Coastal Security set up, Stealth Frigate INS Shivalik and Tanker INS Shakti enhancing the fighting prowess and reach of the Eastern Fleet, were some of the defining moments of the preceding twenty six months under his stewardship.

VICE ADMIRAL ANIL CHOPRA TO TAKE OVER AS FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF, EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND

Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, AVSM will assume Command of the Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Anup Singh on Monday, 31 Oct 11, at a Ceremonial Parade to be held at the Naval Base. Vice Admiral Chopra was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1975. He is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Kharakvasla, the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, the College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai and the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi. He is the recipient of the Binoculars for standing first in merit as a Naval Cadet, the Sword of Honour as a Midshipman, the Admiral RD Katari Trophy for topping the Long Gunnery Course, the Scudder Medal at the DSSC and the Colonel Pyarelal Medal at the NDC. Admiral Chopra was appointed in various Gunnery billets onboard then new acquisitions of the Navy, including INS Vijaydurg, INS Rajput and INS Gomati. He commanded the Missile Corvette INS Kuthar, the Destroyer INS Rajput and the Aircraft Carrier INS Viraat. The Admirals appointments ashore have included Principal Director Naval Plans at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi and Senior Instructor (Navy) at DSSC, Wellington. He was posted to Rome, Italy, in connection with induction of combat systems for Navys frontline units. Admiral Chopra has also spent a year in Washington DC as a Senior Fellow at the United States Atlantic Council. On promotion to Flag Rank in Aug 05, the Admiral was appointed Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command. During this tenure, the maiden Presidents Fleet Review on the Eastern Seaboard was held at Visakhapatnam, in Feb 06. After a short stint as the Assistant Controller of Carrier Production, he was appointed the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy & Plans). His last operational appointment was that of the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet. Prior to taking over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eatsren Naval Command, Admiral Chopra was the Director General, Indian Coast Guard (DGICG). At the helm of the Indian Coast Guard for almost three years, the Admiral has propelled and overseen an exponential growth in the force levels and operations of the Coast Guard. In his capacity as the DGICG, he was the Chairman, of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee, the National Maritime Search and Rescue Board and the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency The Flag Officer was awarded the Ati Vishist Seva Medal for distinguished service in 2007.

Three teenagers who ran away from Hyderabad were caught by the City Police on Saturday. According to the Police sources, Mediri Naveen (13 yrs), ZK Paul (14 yrs) and Pura Praveen (14 yrs) of Hyderabad absconded from home on 27th of this month and reached Vizag on Friday. Mr. Shiva Prasad, SI of Dwarakanagar Zone identified them and intimated to their parents, and later handed them over to them. These three are Class IIV students of the same school in SPR Hills, Hyderabad. Parents thanked the City Police for their support and prompt action

Rotary Club Visakha port city on the occasion of Rotary Vocational month gave away the Rotary Vocational Excellence Award to Sri P.K.Lingeswara Rao, Organizing Secretary, Consumer Protection Council which is a voluntary consumer organization with an objective of promoting consumer awareness and protection of the interest of consumers. Sri PK Lingeswara Rao has taken an active interest in spreading awareness about consumer rights and had organized 90 seminars and awareness camps in schools and colleges. In 150 cases of consumer disputes, he has ensured amicable settlement out of court. 70 members of different vocations which are usually not recognized for their services to society like sweepers, TB hospital nurses, traffic constables, RTC bus conductors have been felicitated by him to boost their morale. He is also a member of PAPA home, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Prema Samajam and Indian Red Cross. The felicitation was held on Friday evening at the club’s own premies at Rotary bIood bank. State Government aimed at 15 lakh jobs by next three years, announced Minister for Tribal Welfare Mr. P. Balaraju on the occasion of Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu (RYK) job fair inaugural ceremony at Andhra University Convocation Hall on Saturday. Addressing the gathering RYK is dream project of Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, he added. Govt has signed MoU with number of industries which were established here and participated to recruit as per their requirement. About 53000 candidates were already enrolled through online portal on the day one, many more to expect on Sunday. By the end of this year, one lakh recruitment be cleared through RYK and all of them will be announced in presence of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, he added. Candidates who passed Class X onwards are allowed in this job fair from North Andhra districts ie Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari, Mr. Raju mentioned. It is the first every ceremony of RYK in the State. Dr. KC Reddy, Vice Chairman- RYK congrulated the organisations who opened thier doors for the unemployed youth. HPCL – Visakh Refinery organized oneday interaction and knowledge sharing session on good safety practices forsafety officers of different industries on October 28, 2011 under the guidanceof Joint Chief Inspector of Factories Sri D Chandrasekhar Verma. General Manger – Operations, HPCL -VR Sri V V R Narasimham welcomed the safety officers of different premierorganizations in Visakhapatnam region and appreciated the initiative taken byDepartment of Factories for this kind of interactive sessions which woulddefinitely help in enhancing knowledge and better compliance to safetymanagement systems. In his opening address Sri D C SVerma told that the Interaction programme & visit to HPCL – Refinery was the secondprogramme of Industrial visits being organized by Factories department forsafety professionals and urged them to make the best efforts to take up withthe top managements to implement some of the good safety practices beingfollowed at HPCL – Visakh Refinery. 34 Safety Officers and Engineers fromaround 31 companies attended the programme. Prof. GSN Raju, Principal Andhra University College of Engineering flagged off the mobile van deputed to canvass the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu job fair, scheduled for the 29th and 30th of this month at AU Convocation Hall on Thursday. Speaking to newsmen on the occasion, he is confident that youngsters of this region will grab this golden opportunity. Temples in city rushed with devotees on the occasion of Karthikam - precious month on Thursday. It is observed as one of the holiest month for Hindus. In the early hours , devotees offer special rituals to Lord Vishnu and Shiva. Ayyappa deekshas will begin on the first day of the Karthikam in Southern parts of the India. During this month devotees stick to the regular practices. They begin their daily activities by 4 am and follow a certain regime like having a vegetarian diet, and eating only once in the day, visiting the temple twice daily, etc. Apart from all this, the special attraction of this month, is entertainment at the tourist spots. The tradition is to go to on a picnic and the old belief is by having lunch under a tree called USIRI(the Amla Tree), one gets the blessing of all the three GODS (Its called TRIMURTI blessing).State Road Transport Corporation will run more services on the weekends in city upto various tourist spots. Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is getting ready with better amenities at the tourist spots in the district.

Vice Admiral Anup Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command who will shortly be handing over the reins of the Command he had helmed for the last two years, will be accorded a fitting farewell by the Flag Officers of the Command on Saturday, 29 Oct 11, at an Equestrian Riding Out Camp conducted by the Eastern Naval Command Polo and Equestrian Training Centre (ENPET), a facility he, an accomplished horseman himself had inaugurated in Dec 09, and had nurtured and promoted since. A keen sportsman and adventurer, Vice Admiral Anup Singh was the Sailing Master of the first ever square-rigged Sail Training Vessel Varuna in 1980-82. He had also skippered the Naval Yacht Samudra for the Pacific Crossing during her round the world voyage in 1989. An equally apt Sailing Out Ceremony by Enterprise class boats was also held today, 27 Oct 11, at the Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam) for the Admiral, who retires from the Naval Service on 31 Oct 11.

Most colourful and entertaining festival Diwali is now under police control this year. Police authorities have imposed restrictions to celebrate this festiv. Cracker vendors were given permission only on Tuesday morning, just before one day. Sales were allowed till 4 pm on Wednesday, if any counter after that will be booked. Product cost of various crackers were doubled compared to previous year, also downs the sale this year expected. Market doesn't seen home made products this year including flower pots and rockets. Not more than 100 counters near old jail road was allowed. Some of the organisations were called for non pollution Diwali by exhibiting awareness camps in city during the last week. Children were directed to celebrate Diwali at peaceful and safe.

BJP NOT in favour of tender cancellation

Bharatiya Janata Party not in favour for cancellation of tenders called for the construction of Polavaram Project, opined Dr. K. Haribabu, National Executive Member, BJP and former MLA. Addressing the media conference on Monday at VJF Press Club here on Monday, he said, this project will give good quantity of water for irrigation in Krishna, East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. Foundation for this project was laid by Dr. T. Anjaiah three decades ago, his successors neglected this project during the time and Kudos to departed chief minister Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy for taking initiation towards the irrigation projects in the state, he mentioned. Water proposed to be supplied to Andhra region doesn't come from main stream of river Godavari but from its sub sect Sabari and Seeleru rivers through left canal, Dr. Hari stated. He frays on political parties which are demanding for cancellation of this tenders which costs about Rs. 4714 crore (Su Infrastructures) , the previous tender called in 2005 for the same project, the figure was only Rs.1600 crores, he added. Finally the conclusion is,he has no objection on the work if it would be completed by K Chandrasekhar Rao (TRS party) and Chandrababu Naidu (TDP) jointly. Mr. S. Satyanaraya, retired Chief Engineer of Irrigation Department, Mr. M. Nagendra, City President BJP, B. Satyanarayana City General Secretary and others were also present at the conference.

Every Year,October 21st is being observed as Police Commemmoration Day. So also on this 21st of Oct, Officials including Commissioner of Police Mr. J. Purnachandra Rao, Rural SP Mr. Srinivasa Rao and others paid tributes to the Police martyrs at beach road. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Purnachandra Rao, promised about extending the Deptt’s full support to the families of police personnel who had sacrificed their lives for the society. He congratulated the children of the Police Personnel who scored good marks in the previous academic year and later distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions like quiz, painting, elocution, essay writing etc.,which were held earlier during the Martyrs' week. Also a parade was arranged before the session. Apart from the police personnel, retired personnel and other civilians also paid their tributes.

Central Institute of Fishery Technology has come out with medical contents from fishery wastes announces it's Scientist-in-Charge, Dr. M.M. Prasad. Revealing this new invention at the inaugural session of an Entrepreneur Meet on ‘Developments in Fishery Waste Utilization’ here in Visakhapatnam on Friday. He mentioned the benefits of the medicine chitin, chitosan and glucosamine generated from the waste of prawns, scrabs and other fishery products. More extension works were proposed at Visakhapatnam Railway Station before the Railway Board during the Railway Meeting, announced Mr. T. Subbarami Reddy, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment, Forest on Thursday. Mr. Reddy mentioned, Railway Board members were pressurised for allocating more berths for Vizag in all the trains originating from Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar, for which Vizagites are overdue.He promised,Escalators at five platforms would be installed, bulk lines costing 90 crores would be introduced, four additional platforms would be added, extension of ticket issuing counters at Gnanapuram entrance also to be installed and 12 diverted trains from Duvvada will be brought to Vizag soon. Out of the 12 trains, three would be diverted with immediate effect and the rest would follow in the next couple of months.

Vizag, being one of the fastest growing city, Pollution is severe and it is the duty of the PSU's to control it, announced Mr. T. Subbarami Reddy, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment, Forest on Thursday. Speaking to newsmen, after conducting discussions on Thursday at the Four Points Hotel, this Committee came to a conclusion that the Public Sector Undertakings which are the cause for such pollution in city should be directed to conduct 40 lakh plantation in concerned locations. The funds from Corporate Social Resposibility (CSR) should be allocated to them, he added. District Collector, Joint Collector, Vice Chairman- VUDA, A.P.Pollution Control Board representatives will soon provide the list of most affected locations in the city. This committee visited Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, HPCL- Visakh Refinery, NTPC (Simhadri) on Wednesday,and Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Thursday evening and checked the pollution affected areas,thoroughly. Members of the Committee were also present at the press conference.

Staging protests at various locations in city on Wednesday, student activists were very particular about their demand. One section of the wing conducted a rasta roko at Siripuram Junction, one team summoned a meeting with school children at Maharastra Mandal and one more team in association with all political party representatives burnt the effigy of Mr. L K Advani (who had dual stand on the same issue)at old Alankar theatre junction. Speaking to the media, Mr. Adari Kishore Kumar, Convenor, State JAC said, Mr. Advani denied to support (in 1991as a Union Home Minister ) his party MP Mr. A. Narendra regarding the formation of Telangana state, but now the same fellow is demanding the Telangana in 2011. Once the state could not be formed in 1991, how can it be formed now in 2011, Mr. Kishore questioned Mr.Advani. Further, JAC students said that they would fast unto death,if the Union Cabinet failed to make a clear statement on Andhra.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment and Forests headed by Dr T Subbarami Reddy visited RINL/Visakhapatnam Steel Plant today. Sri A P Choudhary, CMD and other Directors of RINL extended a warm welcome to Dr Subbarami Reddy and other members of the Committee on their arrival in VSP. The Committee visited the Model Room, various new facilities in the expansion area. The other members of the Committee who visited the plant are S/Sri Saman Pathak, Jabir Husain, Dr Barun Mukherjee, Ninog Ering, Smt Kamla Devi Patie, Abdul Rahman, Gajendra Singh Rajukhedi, Dr Anup Kumar Saha, Pradeep Tamta and Dr Ranjan Prasad Yadav and other officials from Ministry on Environment and Forests and Parliament Secretariat. Sri A P Choudhary, CMD explained to the Committee the facilities incorporated, the technology adopted and the initiatives being taken with regard to environment in the plant. Sri Choudhary said that concern for environment is one of the core values of the organization and utmost thrust is given to protect the environment and natural resources. Dr Subbarami Reddy after visiting the new facilities overwhelmed by the advanced environment and green initiatives that are being implemented in VSP right from its beginning. Dr Subbarami Reddy shown keen interest to know the initiatives to protect the environment in the future expansion of the plant. Dr Subbarami Reddy praised the management and skilled & dedicated workforce of VSP for its excellent performance. Dr Subbarami Reddy said that VSP is the best in the industry with respect to Energy Consumption, Water consumption, Waste Heat Recovery and all environment related parameters are maintained well below the prescribed the norms. Sri AP Choudhary said that there are three types of waste energy – Waste Heat Energy, Waste Gas Energy and Waste Pressure Energy, which we tap to save environment and also to reduce cost of production. He mentioned to the Committee that VSP is the only plant in the country to generate around 150 MW from waste energy which will touch 300 MW on completion of 6.3 mtpa expansion. Utmost care is given to greenery with the motto of “One tree for every tone of Steel produced” and the green cover extends over 41% of our land bank, he added. CMD explained the Committee about the additional cost on account of lack of captive iron ore mines to RINL and requested Hon’ble Chairman and Members to help in expediting the applications pending with various State Govts. Hon’ble Chairman, Dr T Subbarami Reddy and members positively responded and assured CMD the needful help to RINL in allotment of iron ore mines. Sri Choudhary thanked the Hon’ble Chairman and the Members of the Committee for extending their support to RINL directly and indirectly which has helped RINL to reach this height. As many precaustions taken the city police, accident rate in city were down announces Mr. J. Purnachandra Rao, city Police Commissioner. Speaking to newsmen at MEET THE PRESS at Seethammadhara Press Club on Tuesday, he revealed number of issues related to police service on the dias. Having successful completion of two years as CP, he had satisfaction upto some extent, his next eye on service roads to prevent more accidents on National Highway, he mentioned. More police were recruited to control the traffic, law and order apart from crime and cyber ones (recently added), all were given good training, Mr. Rao stated. He advised parents of city of destiny to create awareness among their minor child before they provide a two wheeler. Traffic police has eye on lock breakings and cyber crimes, he sought support from the public too. He congratulated his subordinates for chasing number of unsolved cases pending for long time. Sri P K Misra, Secretary, Steel said that RINL has the potential to become a leader in the country to achieve higher levels of techno-economic parameters in steel production. Improvement in techno economic parameters will lead to better profits and production of cheaper steel, he added. Sri Misra said that RINL has got all the potentiality to become MAHARATNA and all should work together and put all efforts to achieve this tag.
Sri Misra was addressing the top management after witnessing a “Corporate Presentation of RINL” which highlighted the Company’s achievements, growth plans, challenges ahead etc. The Steel Secretary said that despite disadvantages of lacking captive iron ore mines, RINL is doing a wonderful job by adopting best techno economic parameters, higher levels of production with its highly skilled and motivated workforce. While complimenting RINL for its excellent performance and for bringing the best work culture right from the beginning, Sri Misra said that by using ingenuity, discipline and commitment, RINL would achieve the Mission of 20 MTPA plant by 2020 at a single location.
Referring to captive iron mines to RINL, Sri Misra assured all possible help would be extended to RINL and hoped that VSP would emerge successfully. He said that the Ministry of Steel is continuously pursuing the matter with different State Governments where RINL had applied for mines. He urged the RINL fraternity to work together to complete the expansion and make best use of the new facilities by utilizing the expertise.
CUSTOMER POLICY RELEASED: Sri Misra released “RINL Customer Policy” on this occasion. The main objective of the policy is “To be the best Company to do business with:. It also aims to create a healthy delight in supply of materials and meet the contingent requirement of suctomers and also to strive for enhancing value for the money and value for the relationship with complete care and concern. Sri Misra later visited major units of the expansion like Coke oven Battery, New Blast Furnace, Steel Melt Shop 2 and Finished Mill. Sri AP Choudhary, CMD explained the facilities and technology adopted in RINL at “Model Room” inside the plant to the Secretary, Steel.
INAUGURATES CONVERTOR CONTROL BUILDING IN SMS-II: Sri Misra today inaugurated the Convertor main Contol Building in BOF shop of Steel Melt Shop –II and also he started Tilting operation of Convertor-2. He expressed satisfaction on the progress of SMS-2 expansion jobs and advised the Projects Collective to expedite commissioning. Sri Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations), Sri P Madhusudan, Director (Finance), Sri T K Chand, Director (Commercial), Sri Y R Reddy, Director (Personnel), union leaders participated.
LD Convertor design, engineering, supply erection, testing & commissioning was awarded to the Consortium comprising SMS-Siemag, Germany, SMS India Pvt.Ltd, M/s BHEL, Bangalore, M/s Bridge & Roof etc. Water System facilities which is one of the critical systems required for commissioning of SMS-2 is made ready by m/s TATA Projects Ltd.
INTERACTION WITH UNIONS: Sri Misra interacted with representatives of Steel Executive Association, trade unions, and SC&ST Association. Sri Misra assured them that the Ministry of Steel is always helping the management in solving the issues and its journey towards excellence. We need your support and commitment to fulfuil the greater task of completing the current and future expansion of RINL, he added. The unions unanimously requested the Secretary the need to allot captive iron ore mines to RINL in view of the massive expansion. Speaking to newsmen on Monday at his camp office near Seethammadhara North Extension, he said, out of the proposed 16 Yagams,this is the 13th . During the yagam, special homams will be performed for special requirements,such as for children, better business, health etc, Prior to the yagam, Swamiji will have pada yatra in about 300 villages from Barampur to Anakapalle starting from December 1st to March. On the 29th of March the Sobhayatra will proceed from Visakha Women's College to Andhra University Engineering College where the Yagam is schedule to take place. The previous 12 yagams were performed at Bhimavaram, Eluru, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Manchiryal, Karimnagar, Warangal, Mahaboobnagar, Hyderabad and Suryapet. Dhanurmasam in December will be held at Anakapalle from December 15 to Januarty 14, 2012, Swamijy stated. Everybody is welcome to participate in this mega festival and have prasad in the morning and afternoon at the venue. Special rituals to the goddess Mahalakshmi with one lakh Tulsi, Kumkum and jasmine. On 4th of April, 2012 Samasrahanam will be offered to interested devotees by the Swamiji himself at the venue. irrespective of caste and creed.

District Administration has conducted Group 2 of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission examinations at peaceful atmosphere on Saturday. Mr. Lav Agarwal directed all the concerned authorities for this examination. Section 144 was imposed at all the centres in the district. About 29 thousand applicants were attended for it on the first day. These tests will also be continued on Sunday. Gangavaram Port Conducts free medical tests and spreads the message of healthy living Gajuwaka, 15th October, 2011: Gangavaram Port Limited, India’s deepest and multipurpose port organized a medical camp for the local people in association with Rotary Diagnostic Centre in Vizag. The initiative was a part of Gangavaram Port’s Social Development programme which was organized to spread awareness about benefits of healthy living in the area. The medical camp was conducted this week from 11th till 15th October 2011 outside the port premises. The camp saw participation of well qualified panel of doctors who conducted free check- ups for men, women & children of the locality. The 5 day camp witnessed good crowd and more than 125 villagers from Gangavaram & Dibbapalem were examined. As a part of the camp a variety of tests were conducted including routine physical examination, E C G, HB percentage, T.C, E.S.R, Blood Grouping-Rh Typing, S.Creatine & Urine Examination etc. Doctors also recorded the Blood Pressure, Height & Weight of the locals depending on the patient's age, family history, and current state of health. . The doctors at the camp not only conducted the tests but also advised locals about the required nutrition & food content to be given to the children & adults. They also educated them regarding the safe drinking water and healthy food habits. Gangavaram Port is committed towards the development of a safe and healthy neighbourhood and will be organizing series of medical camps and social events for the betterment of society in the future .

Issues remain unsolved at DRC

District Review Committee (DRC) hasn't find any solution to number of issues on Thursday which were discussed in previous sessions. Mr. Vatti Vasanth Kumar chaired the session on Thursday held at Vysakhi Jala Udyanavanam, where all the MLAs, MLCs and other representatives present to present issues kept pending for months together. Mr. Vasanth Kumar could not shown solution to answer on dispute lands at Simhachalam, rehabilitation to land loosers at APIIC in Gajuwaka, and other querries raised by Mr. MLC Sharma. Ms. D. Purandheswari, sitting MP and Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development attended the session for the first time during the past four years. Mr. Luv Agarwal, District Collector was asked about the situation of Chodavaram Sugars during Annual General Body Meering. Mr. Agarwal explained the situation happened during the AGM and misbehaviour of members towards the Collector. Session was continued for three hours and ended with no solution to any of pending issues. Mr. B. Ramanjaneyulu, Commissioner, GVMC, received the Euro India Award for the Environmentally Sustainable City in the Euro India Summit being organized by the Euro India Center in Leuven, Belgium, today. The city is awarded for its overall performance of Environmental Sustainability with reference to Sewerage, Storm Water Drainage, Power Generation and Energy Management, Carbon Emission Efficiency, Promotion of Green Areas and other Urban Planning areas within the Urban Planning Systems. In the statement released by the Commissioner, Sri. B. Ramanjaneyulu, expressed his happiness for receiving the prestigious international award to GVMC, and stated that the members of the jury of the Awards Committee appreciated the efforts of the city management in achieving the sustainability of overall development particularly in the areas of Environmental aspects such as Solid Waste Management, Street Lighting, Water Supply and distribution, transportation and ban on plastic usage. The award has been handed over to the Commissioner by the members of the jury – Dr. Arjit Anand, Vice Chairman, Euro India, and other panelists Mr. Kartikeya V Sarabai and Prof. Ronne Belman. The Commissioner further stated that GVMC is one among the 6 cities in India selected for the Euro India Award-2011, and other cities are Mysore, Vijayawada, Bangalore, Ajmeer and Raipur. A Seminar on the Maritime History with the central theme of Maritime Indias traditions and travails was held by the Eastern Naval Command today, 03 Oct 11 at Samudrika Naval auditorium. The Guest lecturers at the Seminar were Vice Admiral (Retired) MP Awati, PVSM, VrC, Former Chief of Western Naval Command and Founder, Maritime History Society of India, and Professor A Narasimha Rao, Honourary Director, Rajaji International Institute of Public Affairs and Administration, specializing in Defence and Strategic Studies in International Relations. The Seminar was attended by Vice Admiral Anup Singh, PVSM, AVSM, NM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, other Flag Officers, senior officers and men of the Navy. Civilian dignitaries that attended the Seminar included Shri Prasanna Kumar, and Dr. DV Subba Rao. The Maritime History Society was founded by Admiral Awati in May 1978. The Admiral was its first Chairman and Chief Patron from 1983 to 2005, the Society aims at promoting the study of India's maritime past and lessons to be learnt from India's reticence to be strong at sea, among others.

RINL has achieved record sales turnover of Rs.6215 Crores in 1st half of the year 2011-12 registering 28% growth over last year same period and fulfilling 117% of MOU target with Ministry of Steel. In this background, the Regional Managers and Sr. Branch Managers Meet was conducted on 3.10.11 to review marketing performance and prepare a Business Plan for the 2nd half. In the Inaugural session Shri AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL and Shri T.K.Chand, Director (Commercial), RINL, VSP took the Performance Review. Marketing Department made a detailed presentation on Sales Performance in the 1st half, Areas of concern, Targets & Challenges ahead for the 2nd half. Steel market scenario in the 1st half was marked by sluggish growth in major consuming sectors like Construction, Manufacturing, Automobile & Engineering etc. Despite this, RINL steered through by dynamic marketing strategy and consistently achieved more than Rs.1,000 crs., sales in the last four months. Marketing Plan focused on opening new market, maximization of Net Sales Realisation, High standards customer service. In the meeting syndicate exercise has been taken up by various teams like Special Steels, Project Sales, Retail Sales, Logistics & supply, IT & ERP etc., and Branch and Region wise Sales Plans for Mild Steel and Special Steel were made and presented before Director (Commercial) for finalization of RINL Sales Plan for the 2nd half. The Meet has created the required synergy to push the performance of RINL in achieving the ambitious target of more than Rs. 14,400 Crs., of turnover. RINL-VSP has 5 regions of North, East, West, South and Andhra and 23 Branches spread across these 5 regions. The meet was attended by General Managers, Regional Managers, Senior Branch Managers of Marketing Department.

Students protests for power cut

Members of Joint Action Committee (JAC)- Samaikyandhra agitation held protest at Andhra Pradesh Electrical Power Distribution Corporation (APEPDCL) on Monday with a demand to lift the power cut in Seemandhra regions. Power cut was implemented due to mass strike as part of Sakala Janula for the past three weeks in Telengana districts called by Telangana political parties. Mr. Kishore Kumar Adari, questioned Mr. HY Dora, Director (Operations)- EPDCL at the its corporate office. He demanded the EPDCL officials, to lift power cuts in rest of the districts, which were imposed such punishment for no cause. Now-a-days, EPDCL is imposing power cut for six hours to cities and nine hours to rural locations. Mr. Dora promissed activists, that there would be only two hour power cut at AU campus keeping in view of students aspect. Earlier, about 100 activists were rushed into the EPDCL corporate office seeking proper cause for the power cuts. Mr. Ramu, YSR Congress, Mr. K. Srinivas, Telugudesam, and students from Andhra University present at the protest.

The best tribute we can pay to Gandhiji is to produce more and more and make independent India prosperous and create opportunities to people to work and earn a livelihood. All the diverted / bypassing trains from Duvvada will be brought to Visakhapatnam Railway Station, promised Mr. T. Subbarami Reddy, MP (Rajya Sabha) on Saturday. Speaking to newsmen at his camp office in city, he said, neccessary action plans were discussed with Railway authorities and problem be sort out on allocating the additional land at Gyanapuram- Rammurthy Pantulupeta railway track for trains to take U turn. Mr. Kasinath Divisional Railway Manager (Visakhapatnam Railway) who was present at the meet along with the Mr. Satya Kumar, Dy. Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust informed that once VPT agrees to give the land the proposal will be sent to the GM of East coast railways and from there it will be forwarded to the Railway Board in N.Delhi. Approval from Railway Board is mandatory and will come out before 2012, after which the normal Tendering process will start and the project will be completed in about a years time from then. The RLY track will be around one and half KM” and may Cost one hundred crores. Mr. P. Janardhana Rao, Mayor, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation also accompanied Mr. Reddy.

Dr D Purandeswari, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Human Resource development inaugurated the new building of Arunodaya Special School in Ukkunagaram, constructed at a cost of Rs 2.0 Crores, in the august presence of HW Mayor of GVMC Mr. P Janardhana Rao and Hon’ble MLA, Gajuwaka Mr. Ch. Venkataramaiah. Arunodaya Special School is a centre for imparting self help skills and vocational training and provides therapeutic needs to mentally challenged children. The focus is to make the child independent in daily living and integration into the main stream by providing guidance and counseling. Arunodaya special School is a multi category disability centre catering to the needs of mentally retarded, deaf and mute children formally launched on may 1995 with two children. Today the Special school caters to 64 children in Ukkunagaram and nearby villages. The school with a spacious building and with equipped class rooms and with scope for expansion and wide range of activities organizes outings, participates in inter school cultural and sports meets and regularly interacts with parents. The class room activities include making of greeting cards, files, gift bags, book binding, candle making, surf and cleaning powder making. Mrs. Purandeswari, Chief Guest complimented Mrs. Lata Choudhary, President, Arunodaya Special School Educational Society, under whose aegis the Arunodaya Special School is managed and Mr. AP Choudhary, CMD of RINL for the noble work. Quoting scriptures of Skanda Puranam and the famous adage ‘manava seve madhava seva’ the ‘service to mankind is service to God’, service to humanity is part of our rich cultural heritage. She requested to spread these activities to the villages nearby. She also complimented the staff of Arunodaya School for their patience and compassion with which the children are being nurtured and in particular Mrs. Lakshmi and Mr. Raju who had been serving in the school for the last 15years. Mr. Janardhana Rao and Mr. Venkataramaiah who were Guests of Honour also complimented RINL-VSP for their exemplary CSR activities and requested VSP to extend these to the people in rehabilitation colonies. Appreciating RINL-VSP’s concern for green environment, the guests also planted trees in the premises of Arunodaya Special School. Thanking for their compliments and gracious presence Mr. AP Choudhary assured the dignitaries that RINL-VSP would do their best and within the scope the activities that would benefit people around Steel Plant. He also asserted that once expansion is complete then there would be plenty of scope to enhance the expenditure for CSR activities. The dance performance by the Students of Arunodaya Special School was well appreciated by the Hon’ble Minister, HW Mayor, Hon’ble MLA and other distinguished guests. Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations), P Madhusudan, Director (Finance), TK Chand, Director (Commercial), YR Reddy, Director (Personnel), Senior Officials of VSP, Members of Visteel Mahila Samiti, SEA Members, Union leaders and Members of SC/ST Association were present. Minister’s Assurance for Captive Mines Dr D Purandeswari, Hon’ble Minister of State for HRD lauded the initiatives and efforts of RINL in expanding its capacity to 6.3 mtpa and also its future expansion programme to 20 mtpa. She asserted that she would use her good offices to ensure allotment of captive mines to RINL-VSP. Sri. AP Choudhary, CMD-RINL briefed the Hon’ble Minister about the RINL’s performance, its growth plan and its future expansion programme. Mr Choudhary requested Hon’ble Minister to expedite the pending mining applications of RINL with various state governments including state of Andhra Pradesh.

INS Shakti, the second of the two Fleet Tankers built by M/s Fincantieri Shipyard, Italy for the Indian Navy was commissioned by Admiral Nirmal Verma, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff at the Naval Dockyard here today, 01 Oct 11, at a colourful ceremony, attended by a distinguished gathering of important Indian and foreign dignitaries, senior naval officials and representatives of Fincantieri Shipyard. Vice Admiral Anup Singh PVSM, AVSM, NM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command was the Chief Host at the Ceremony. The occasion was also commemorated by release of a Special Cover by the Indian Postal and Telegraph service. On arrival the Chief of Naval Staff was presented with a Fifty-men Guard. Following the inaugural and keynote addresses delivered by Mr Corrado Antonini, the President of Fincantieri Shipyard, Italy and Vice Admiral Anup Singh respectively, Captain Ravi Malhotra, Commanding Officer INS Shakti, read out the Commissioning Warrant. The hoisting of the Naval Ensign onboard for the first time and Breaking of the Commissioning Pennant with the National Anthem being played marked the formal Commissioning Ceremony. Following the Colours Ceremony, the Chief Guest unveiled the Ships Plaque and the Post Master General, Visakhapatnam, Shri Chandra Prakash released the Special Cover on behalf of Indian Postal and Telegraph service, commemorating the Commissioning of INS Shakti,. Addressing the gathering onboard Shakti, The Chief of the Naval Staff congratulated the Fincantieri Shipyard and Indian PSUs like Bharat Electronics, HAL and a host of small scale industries and sub-contractors who have contributed in building this fine ship. He said that the induction of Shakti signifies a new era of modern world class state of the art technologies for the Indian Navy as well as an important leap for the Indian Navy as the ship enhances the influence of the Navy. Other Distinguished Guests on the Occasion included the Honourable Italian Ambassador to India, Mr Giacomo Sanfelice D Monteforte, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command and Vice Admiral NN Kumar, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition, in addition to Flag Officers and Senior Officers, both serving and retired.
