Seminar on Enterprise Risk Management

A Seminar on "Enterprise Risk Management – Introduction & Overview" was held at Visakhapatnam Steel plant on 25.05.2011 under the aegis of Ukkunagaram CPE Study Circle of ICAI. Mr. P Madhusudhan, Director (Finance) was Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Madhusudhan stated that "Globalization is a double edged sword" and ‘while globalisations has thrown open immense opportunities, it has brought an equal amount of risks with it’. ‘A housing bubble in US, a European debt crisis or any such event anywhere in the world impacts Indian economy like it impacts any other country’s economy in the world. India once was a closed economy not exposed to many risks when compared to today’s risks. With globalisation every organisation in India is required to gear up to face the risks/challenges that are associated. It is in this direction, the DPE (Department of Public Enterprises), issued guidelines on Corporate Governance in the year 2007, which are later made mandatory for all PSEs, laid appropriate thrust on the concept of Enterprise Risk Management’, he added. Enterprise Risk Management helps management in bettering CPSEs’ performance and profitability. It helps to ensure effective reporting and compliance with laws and regulations and helps in avoiding the damage to the entity’s reputation and associated consequences. Considering the significance of risk management in the scheme of corporate management strategies and their oversight should be one of the main responsibilities of the Board/Management. The Board should ensure the integration and alignment of the risk management system with the corporate and operational objectives and also that risk management is undertaken as a part of normal business practice and not as a separate task at set times. RINL had started this initiative way back in the year 2006 i.e., even before the issue of DPE guidelines in 2007. The initiative started with appointment of M/s. Deloitte as consultants and later the task was taken over by an in-house team. RINL was quite ahead of other PSEs in implementing the ERM.

WORKSHOP ON "NEXT GENERATION INTERNET PROTOCOL-THE CHALLENGES AHEAD (IPv6 )"

Computer society of India , Vizag chapter has today conducted a workshop on “Next Generation Internet Protocol –the challenges ahead (IPv6)” in association with BSNL in the city. The workshop was inaugurated by Professor Beela Satyanarayana , Honourable Vice Chancellor, Andhra University, who was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion he emphasized on security of internet. He praised the activities of the chapter and said that such workshops will bring awareness of latest trends in the technologies to the masses. More than 100 participants attended the workshops from various industries and academia in and around Visakhapatnam. Sri R, M.M Krishna , Sr. General Manager , BSNL, Visakhapatnam was the Guest of Honour. He briefed the participants on the need for migrating from iPv4 to IPv6. Paramata Satyanarayana , Secretary , CSI, Vizag Chapter welcomed the gathering and Sri CK Padhi AGM IT, Vizag Steel Plant and Treasurer CSI, Vizag Chapter, proposed vote of thanks. The sessions were conducted by Sri Sudheer Kumar, General Manager , BSNL, Gurugaon and his colleague Sri. M. Deviprasad. IPv6 was designed to solve the problems of IPv4. The new version of the protocol serves the same functions as IPv4. However, it does this without the same limitations of IPv4. IPv6 uses 128 bits as opposed to IPv4’s 32. This means that by comparison, IPv6 has a lot more addresses. This is also a main reason for using IPv6 in the future. Since 1981, IPv4 has been the publicly used version of the Internet Protocol, and it is currently the foundation for most Internet communications. The Internet’s growth has created a need for more addresses than IPv4 is capable of IPv6 allows for vastly more numerical addresses. Switching from IPv4 to IPv6 may be a difficult process but for the internet user & internet based applications there is no other way but to switch to IPv6 since IPv4 address ranges have exhausted. Celllular telephone systems present a large deployment field for IPv6. Implementation of Services of 3G & 4G are not possible without IPv6 implementation. This mandates the use of IPv6 for such networks.
