Retired Po and Dy EE felicitated in VUDA
VUDA Planning Officer V Dhanabal and Deputy Executive Engineer N Vijaya Lakshmi were bid farewell on their superannuation here on Monday. The Vice Chairman B Sreedhar felicitated the retired employees with shawl and garlands at his chambers. While lauding the services rendered by them, the Vice Chairman said the technical persons should play a vital role in society even after their retirement from service. Since the capabilities of technical people remain throughout life, they can contribute for growth and development of their surroundings, the Vice Chairman said.
Dhanabal has rendered services as an employee in VUDA planning wing for more than three decades and contributed a lot in planning and development of VUDA area. His role in preparation of VUDA Master Plan is well recognized and after attaining the age of superannuation, he retired as Planning Officer in charge from VUDA. The Deputy Executive Engineer Vijaya Lakshmi worked in VUDA engineering wing for more than 25 years.

Students told to improve Self discipline to achieve higher goals
Suresh Betha, the chief trainer of Drona Consultancy told students to inculcate and improve self discipline to achieve higher goals in life. He was offering training and orientation to students on how to prepare for exams, self confidence and motivation organised by VUDA here on Sunday. The students were advised to habituate to manage crisis in regard with their studies with positive approach and self confidence alone saves them to overcome any kind of problem. Suresh asked the students to get inspirations from those taking up challenges in spite of difficulties. TV Channels and newspapers should be used for gaining helpful information but not the gossips and unwanted, he added.
To face the examinations, one should have self confidence first and a positive approach for their own capabilities, Suresh said.

Panel of Judges for PM’s Trophy Pats RINL-VSP
The Panel of Judges for assessment of PM’s Trophy for the Best Integrated Steel Plant for the years 2008-09 and 2009-10 complimented RINL-VSP for its ‘Excellent Performance’, ‘Concern for Environment’ and ‘Best Techno-Economic Parameters’, on- going Expansion Activities and emphasis on ‘Value added Steel. During the visit the Panel of Judges had detailed discussion with CMD, Directors and Senior Officials with regard to Performance, Expansion, Customer Satisfaction, Peopl Management and CSR Activities. The Panel also visited the Production Units and 6.3 Million Expansion Units. The Panel of Judgesalso had discussion with various Unions, Steel Executive Association and WIPS

A ‘Mass tree Plantation’ of planting 10,000 trees on a single day was organized on 26
th Feb, 2011 and the event was inaugurated by the visiting Panel of Judges and was also attended by Directors and Union Leaders and Employees of RINL-VSP, Members of Visteel Mahila Samithi and School Children of Ukkunagaram and planting of 10,000 trees on a single day was unique. Speaking on the Occasion both Dr. Pranab Sen and Dr SR Jain of the Panel of the Judges complimented RINL-VSP’s endeavor and stated that other industries should also strive to follow. The Panel also visited ‘Visakha Vimala Vidyalaya, a school run by RINL-VSP under its CSR Programme.

AIR MARSHAL DHIRAJ KUKREJA AT ENC
Air Marshal Dhiraj Kukreja, AVSM VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, Indian Air Force, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Neerja Kukreja, President, Air Force Wives Welfare Association (R) arrived Visakhapatnam today, 26 Feb11, on a two day visit to the Eastern Naval Command. They were received on arrival at INS Dega by Rear Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command.
The Air Marshal, accompanied by Mrs. Neerja Kukreja are scheduled to visit Dolphin Hill Accommodation Complex and the Kursura Submarine Museum. Air Marshal and Mrs. Kukreja will also attend the MCI Golf Tournament at the East Point Golf Course prior departure on Sunday, 27 Feb 11. |

National Productivity Week Concludes at RINL-VSP
RINL-VSP observed National Productivity Week from 12th Feb to 18th Feb, 2011. As part of the National productive week VSP organized a talk by Professor EU Bhaskar Reddy, Andhra University on ‘Sustainable Environment. Mr. N Shiv Kumar, Director, Southern Region, PCRA gave a talk on ‘Sustainable Energy’. The valedictory function was held on 19-2-2011at the Training and development Centre of VSP wherein Mr. KVR Raju of National Productivity Council gave a talk on the theme ‘Green Productivity for Sustainable Energy and Development ‘.
He thanked VSP for successfully organizing the week and complimented VSP for producing ‘clean and green steel ‘ and for the greenery and environmental concern. Mr. Y R Reddy, Director (Personnel) complimented the Energy Management department and asserted that having come to know that an A4 size requires 5 litres of water, he had instructed his staff to reduce paper consumption and use electronic mail instead.
Mr. Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations) who was Chief Guest complimented the Energy Management department for conducting the programmes successfully stressed the need to conserve more in view of the global warming.
Various competitions like essay writing and slogan competitions were held for employees on the ‘Green Productivity’ theme.

RINL FORMATION DAY CELEBRATED WITH ENTHUSIASM
The presentation of prestigious JN Awards & colourful cultural programme marked this year’s formation day celebrations of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited – Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP). The 30th RINL Formation Day was inaugurated by lighting up the lamp by Chief Guest Sri PK Bishnoi, CMD, RINL.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri PK Bishnoi, CMD, RINL lauded the efforts of ever committed employees and complimented their family members for extending encouragement to the employees to perform better and better. Shri. Bishnoi observed that RINL has crossed its childhood and adulthood phases and has blossomed to a mature stage marching towards greater heights. He emphasized the need for imbibing an ambitious productive work culture at this stage to face the challenges so that the company can be grow at a faster rate and achieve greater stability and sustainability in the years to come. Sri Bishnoi complimented the RINL collective for achieving the "Excellent" MOU rating from the government for its performance (The best amongst the PSUs under Ministry of Steel) and also for bagging several National Awards. He advised the employees to relentlessly work so that new units in expansion can be commissioned and stabilisation/integration of new units with existing plant can be achieved seamlessly. He thanked the Hon’ble Minister of Steel, Sri Beni Prasad Vermaji for taking up the allotment of captive Mines to VSP with AP government which would help in the much needed raw material securitization for the company. With allotment of captive mines the company has a bright and profitable future, he added.
Sri Bishnoi, CMD presented the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Awards to 30 executive and 38 Non-executive employees in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the company. The Eco Awards to Schools and School Children in Ukkunagaram were also presented on this occasion. Sri Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations), Sri TK Chand, Director (Commercial) and Sri YR Reddy, Director (Personnel) presented the certificates to winners of Eco Awards.
Senior officials, Steel Executive Association members, Trade Union Leaders, SC&ST Association members and families of employees were present. A Cultural programme was organised at Trishna Grounds, Ukkunagaram in the evening to mark the occasion. |

Mega spiritual programme on Sunday
Srivariki Amrutha Swararchana by Sharathchandra
VUDA in association with Ghantasala Smaraka Peetham will organise a grand spiritual and melodious musical programme “Srivariki Amrutha Swararchana” on February 20 at Gurajada Kalakshetram. Addressing the media persons on Thursday, the organizers said the programme will be organised with the title “Sri Venkatanivasaya… Srinivasaya Mangalam” and the founder of Ghantasala Smaraka Peetham and Ghantasala Sangeetha Kalasala, Master T Sharathchandra will be presenting devotional songs of Ghantasala sung on Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
The event will begin with worshipping of the Lord with recitation of veda mantras by Pandits followed by the Suprabhatam by Sharathchandra written by Komarraju Durga Prasad, a NRI in Telugu. Sharathchandra and his team will present most of the private and cine numbers sung by Ghantasala on Lord Balaji. Eleven Annamayya Keertanas composed by Sharathchandra in the style and music of Ghantasala will also be presented at the programme. The nine songs from the musical CD ‘Sri Venkatadri Vaibhavam’ composed and sung by Sharathchandra will be specially presented in the programme. Classical dance by Lipika Reddy, familiar classical dancer from Visakhapatnam is also part of the programme on Sunday.

Former Mormugao Port Chairman visited VCTPL
Dr Jose Paul, Former Chairman of MPT and also Acted as Chairman of JNPT visited Visakha Container Terminal on 17 February 2011. Presently he is the Member of the Executive Council of the Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai. Dr Jose Paul who has done extensive research in the field of port sector especially port management for which he was awarded a Doctorate from University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom. Earlier worked as Dy. Chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust. He addressed the students of Visakha Institute of Port Management (VIPM) being operated under the auspices of VCTPL. During his address he emphasized the need for good training facilities for training budding candidates into port professionals. He informed that there is an acute shortage of skilled port personnel and lauded VCTPL for taking the initiative for starting the Institute. He cited the best practices prevailing in International Terminals for achieving port efficiency and reducing the transaction costs for the Trade. He informed that out of all the Container Terminals in the country, VCT has the least turn round time of vessels. Sri R.Ravi Kumar, Vice President, VCTPL in his concluding remarks explained the contributions made by Dr Jose Paul for development of the Port Sector in India.

INTERNATIONAL CONTAINER SHIP NAMED AS “VIZAG”
FIRST TIME IN MARITIME HISTORY
There have been several port cities were popular all over the world not only because they are either big in size or handling huge volumes of cargo but there is another reason that some of the International Ships are named after the port city names. Now the city of destiny “Vizag” name is being chosen by Far Shipping Company Pte Ltd, Singapore to one of its ship. After the naming ceremony as M.V. FAR VIZAG the vessel had made a maiden call to Vizag at 1900 hrs on 13 Feb 2010 and berthed at Visakha Container Terminal Pvt. Ltd. With this the name Vizag occupied the significance in the International Maritime History not only as leading port in the country but also by its nomenclature. This ship is dedicated to carry container which are bound to Colombo for further voyage. The need for dedicated services were gradually felt by all major shipping companies in view of the fact that container business generating from Vizag has huge potential and destined to all over the world as well. This trend will continue and shipping companies prefer to run new services connecting Vizag to various part of the globe. Already three Main Line Vessel are commenced their operations from Vizag connecting Singapore, China and Korea. However, these point to point vessels can ply affectively on schedules and can carry west bound cargo to Colombo which is hub port. Captain Sriram Ravichander, Chief Operating Officer, VCTPL welcomed the New Service Vessel in traditional way by presenting the memento. While talking to press said that the growing traffic to USA, Europe and other west bound destinations will become hassle free with this kind of dedicated services and also expressed joy over naming after our city. Further mentioned that VCT is also gearing up with few more new cranes to meet all demands of the trade. |

INAGURATION OF PORT MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE
Much awaited and first of its kind Port Equipment Operation/ Equipment Maintenance institute has been launched at Visakhapatnam by the hands of Captain Sriram Ravichander, COO, VCTPL at Old Muncipal Corporation building near Fishing Harbour at 1100 hrs on 17 Jan 2011.
The institute is named as Visakha Institute Port Management (VIPM) having limited seats, with an objective to prepare ITI/Diploma/B Tech graduates to purse their career in port sector.
Captain Sriram Ravichander, COO, VCTPL has been consented to be the Chief Guest and to deliver the inaugural lecture to the students pursuing courses. Presently two courses have been launched and few more are proposed in future they are Certificate in Container Terminal Equipment Maintenance (CCTEM) for Diplomo/B Tech students and Certificate in Container Terminal Equipment Operations(CCTEO) for ITI qualified students.
Mr.Sushil Mulchandani,Dy COO in his address mentioned that CFS, ICDs and Container /Bulk ports having shortage of skilled manpower for equipment operations and maintenance all over the country and abroad. While Mr.R Ravikumar, VP assured placement assistance through campus interview by VCT.

VISAKHAPATNAM STEEL PLANT BAGS NATIONAL AWARDS
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant bagged three national awards at the 11th Andhra Pradesh Public Relations Conference under the aegis of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Hyderabad Chapter held on Sunday at Hotel Green Park, Hyderabad.
VSP was awarded First Prize for its website under the ‘Corporate Website’ Category and two issues of its in-house magazine ‘Ukkuvani’ were awarded First and Second Prizes under the Newsletter category.
Many Government organizations, Various Public Sector Undertakings and private Companies participated.
Dr Phaneendrudu, DGM (CC) and Mr. RajeswaraRao, DGM (IT) of VSP received the awards from Mr. MVVS Murty, Additional Director General, PIB, Government of India.
At the Minerals Metals Metallurgy & Materials International Exhibition (MMMM-2011) held from 11th Feb to 14th Feb, RINL-VSP bagged two commendation awards for its design and concept in national large company category. Mr. BS Satyendra, AGM (CC) received the awards. RINL-VSP stall highlighting the growth potential of the Company, green environment, Energy initiatives and Product Portfolio attracted large number of delegates from more than 160 companies across the world. Other giants like SAIL, NMDC, TATA Steel, ESSAR and Jindal also participated in the exhibition with their stalls.
Mr. PK Bishnoi, CMD and other Directors of RINL-VSP congratulated and complimented ‘Corporate Communications’ and ‘Information Technology’ departments for the achievements.

National Productivity Week at VSP Inaugurated
Under the guidance of National Productivity Council, all Industrial Organizations in the country organize ‘National Productivity Week’ from 12-2-11 to 18-2-11. RINL-VSP is also observing ‘National Productivity Week with the theme ‘Green Productivity for Sustainable Energy and Environment’.
In this connection the Environment Management Department of RINL-VSP is organizing week long activities of invited talks, Slogan and Essay competitions. At the inaugural function held in ED (Works) building a presentation was made on the initiatives and steps being taken by RINL-VSP for efficient and clean environment. It is a matter of Pride for RINL-VSP that about 4.0 million trees are planted in and around RINL-VSP and some of the techno-economic parameters related to energy efficiency are best in the country and are also comparable to best in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ranjan, GM( Works) I/C suggested that there is need to further ‘Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’ all waste products and periodically measure and review the efficiencies of these steps and initiative for sustainable energy and environment in the present context of depleting natural resources and global warming.

MEETING OF INDO RUSSIAN INTER GOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION (IRIGC) ON MILITARY TECHNICAL COOPERATION AT VISAKHAPATNAM
The ninth meeting of the Indo Russian Inter Governmental Commission (IRIGC) on Military Technical Cooperation (MTC), sub group Navy commenced at the Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command today, 07 Feb 11. The Russian delegation is headed by Rear Admiral Victor Barsuk, Head of Technical Department of Russian Navy and includes senior delegates from various Military Equipment Industries. The Indian delegation led by Vice Admiral Ganesh Mahadevan, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Materiel, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) comprises representatives of the Ministry of Defence and specialists from the Indian Navy.
Rear Admiral Victor Barsuk called on Vice Admiral Anup Singh, PVSM, AVSM, NM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command and discussed the main agenda of the meeting. The three day meeting is a biannual event with a scope of reviewing various areas of Military Technical Cooperation between the two countries and for identification of new areas of common interest.

CMD of RINL/VSP lays the first refractory brick of Expansion
Sri. PK Bishnoi, CMD of RINL/VSP laid the first refractory brick to start the special type of lining work of the vertical shaft kilns at Calcining & Refractory Materials Plant (CRMP) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant under its 6.3 MTPA expansion program.
The new CRMP will be one of the most efficient and optimal energy consuming kiln which is in line with VSP's effort towards environmental friendly measures.
M/s. Terruzzi Fercalx SPA, along with Vulcan Engineers Ltd., Pune one of the leading suppliers of CRMP Units are ercting 2 nos. 500 Tones per day Vertical Shaft Kilns at CRMP.
These 500 Tones per day lime producing capacity kilns are the biggest in the country with Beckenbach Annular Shaft design are the biggest capacity kilns to be installed in India with features like better fuel efficiency, lower fines generation, better maintainability etc.,
CMD, complimented project team for their efforts for the expansion works.

The Navy Children School (104 Area) celebrated its Annual Day with a delightfully entertaining cultural program held in the school premises on Thursday, 03 Feb 11. The Headmistress Mrs. Pushpa T Samuel in her Annual Report apprised the audience of the various additions in infrastructure and the notable achievements of the students in various State and National Level competitions. This was followed by an entertainment program showcasing the talent, confidence and energy of the young participants.

TRIBUTES PAID TO ARMY OFFICERS BODY ON ARRIVAL IN THE CITY
Floral tributes were paid to the mortal remains of Major Banu Chander of 669 Reconnaissance and Observation (R&O) Squadron of the Indian Army, on arrival at the Naval Air Station INS Dega here today, 03 Feb 11. Major Chander died when the Cheetah helicopter he was ferrying for the Aero India show at Bangalore crashed after taking off from Nasik airfield, killing both the crew. The body of the Officer, a native of Vizianagaram, was flown into Visakhapatnam by from Nasik and was handed over to his relatives.
A Ceremonial Guard of the Navy performed the solemn drill of Shok Shastra and Sounding of Last Post, followed by a two-minute silence. Wreaths were placed on behalf of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Army and Navy personnel also placed floral wreaths on behalf of the Army and Naval authorities. |
