RINL-VSP Bags Ispat Rajbhasha Shield

RINL-VSP bagged the First Prize of Ispat Rajbhasha Shield for the first time for remarkable work in progressive use and implementation of Official Language for the year 2008-09. In the meeting of Hindi Salahkar Samithi of Ministry of Steel held at New Delhi on 29-11-10, the Honourable Minister of Steel, Mr. Virabhadra Singh presented the First Prize to Mr. PK Bishnoi, CMD of RINL. All the members of Hindi Salahkar Samithi of Ministry of steel appreciated RINL-VSP for its excellent performance. Speaking on the occasion the Honourable Minister of Steel desired that all other organizations must follow RINL-VSP with respect to implementation of Official Language. Mr. PK Bishnoi complimented the Hindi officials of RINL-VSP for their efforts and VSP Collective for the successful implementation of Official Language

COMMODORE GANGESH KUMAR TAKES OVER AS NAVAL OFFICER IN CHARGE (ANDHRA PRADESH)

Commodore Gangesh Kumar took over as Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh) at an impressive Ceremonial Parade held at Naval Dockyard today, 26 Nov 10 wherein nineteen men Ceremonial Guard was presented to the Naval Officer-in-Charge. Commodore Gangesh Kumar, a specialist in Anti Submarine Warfare, has held a number of prestigious appointments both afloat and ashore. The Commodores afloat appointments include Fleet Anti Submarine Officer of the Western Fleet and command of an ASW Corvette and of a Missile Corvette. The Commodore has been an instructor at the prestigious National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune and also the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti Submarine Warfare School, INS Venduruthy, Kochi. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Defence Services Staff College (Wellington) and Naval Higher Command Course (Mumbai), Commodore Gangesh Kumar has served with the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence in the Division of Finance Planning prior to taking over the present appointment. Commodore Brian A Thomas, the outgoing NOIC (AP), after a successful tenure as Naval Officer-in-Charge (AP), proceeds to command INS Netaji Subhash and as Naval Officer-in-Charge (West Bengal).

ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE TO NAVY MELA AND VISIT TO NAVAL SHIPS

As part of Navy Week celebrations, three warships of the Eastern Fleet namely INS Ranvir, INS Airavat and INS Kulish were open for visit by children and the public over the past two days. INS Ranvir is a Kashin Class Destroyer, INS Airavat is a Landing Ship Tank (Large) class of amphibious ship while INS Kulish is front line Missile Platforms of the Indian Navy. About 1200 children from various reputed schools and colleges from in and around Visakhapatnam including NCC cadets visited the ships on Friday, 26 Nov 10 . A large number of public from all walks of life also visited the ships today, 27 Nov 10. The visitors were taken on a guided tour of the ship and briefed about the diverse weapons and equipment fitted onboard. Various Naval evolutions and operations were explained to them by the means of photo boards. A Career Counseling Cell was also set up by INS Kuthar, for those with an interest in joining the Navy. Considerable excitement was in evidence as the visitors experienced life in the Navy from close quarters.
The Navy Mela at Samudrika grounds also evoked good response, with over 20,000 people visiting the venue to date. Visitors have evinced keen interest in the stalls put up by the Submarine Maintenance Unit, Naval Armament Depot and the Dockyard. The submarine model displaying diving, surfacing and torpedo firing capabilities, and another of INS Jalashwa depicting its entire range of operations have been garnering maximum attention.
Sunday, 28 Nov 10 is the last day for visiting the ships between 9 AM to 5 PM and also for visiting the Mela between 10 AM and 10 PM.

CMD of RINL calls for support to National Convention on Quality

Mr. PK Bishnoi, CMD of RINL called upon the organizations associated with ‘Quality’ to support generously for the "National Convention on Quality Concepts" (NCQC-2010)being held in Visakhapatnam from 27th to 30th December, 2010 being organized under the aegis of ‘Quality Circle Forum of India’ in association with the Visakhapatnam Chapter at College of Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapanam.Mr. PK Bishnoi, who is the Chairman of the ‘Advisory Committee’ for the Convention reviewed the program and the arrangements being made with the ‘Advisory Committee members’. Speaking to the members he stated that in today’s competitive world and growing economy, Quality of products and services are of utmost importance and significance’ and appealed to the members that all out efforts be made to make the convention a success.Mr. DK Srivatsava, Executive Director of QCFI presented the details of events and arrangements being made to the advisory committee. About 5000 delegates from all over the country are expected to participate in the national convention. At the convention case studies will be presented in the categories of ‘Quality Circle’, ‘Kaizen’, ‘Six sigma Concepts’, ‘5-S’ concepts. ‘Llive models’ of quality circles will also be presented. Mr. AP Choudhary, Director (Projects) of RINL, DK Sood, GM-I/c of NTPC, GVL Satya Kumar of Visakhapatnam Port Trust, other members of the Advisory Committee and representatives of other organizations attended the meeting

DAY AT SEA FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN AND MEDIA

Over 10000 School children and staff, 500 Defence Civilian personnel, 90 Media personnel, 20 Senior Citizens and VSF members sailed onboard Eastern Fleet Ships today, 23 Nov 10, and witnessed various Naval exercises at sea. Four ships of the Eastern Naval Command, INS Jalashwa - Landing Platform Dock, INS Ranvir, INS Rana, - Kashin Class Destroyer and INS Savitri -Missile Corvette participated in the Event held as a part of the Navy Week activities.
The Event started with the prize distribution to the children winning the Navy Week Painting Competition Pratibimb-10, held on 07 Nov 10 at the Swarna Bharti Indoor Stadium. The Prizes were given away by Rear Admiral P Murugesan, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, onboard INS Jalashwa. The top five entrants in each category were felicitated in the presence of their proud parents. The winning entries were that of Arya Murukesan, CH Aniriti Sarkar and CH Krishna Kumar in the Sub-junior, Junior and Senior categories respectively. DAV Public School, Anakapalle was once again adjudged the Best and awarded the Rolling Trophy. In the special children and hearing impaired children categories In the Special and Hearing impaired childrens categories, Nikhil and K Rahul Ranjan secured the first positions respectively.
The highlights of the Day at Sea exercises were the demonstration by Fast Attack Craft (FACs), Search and Rescue (SAR) demonstration, Anti-Submarine Operations by Helicopters, high speed manoeuvres by Corvettes, Close Range Anti-aircraft firing, Underway Replenishment involving transfer of men and material by jackstay and launch and recovery of Landing Crafts Mechanised (LCMs) by INS Jalashwa.

INS KALINGA CELEBRATES SILVER JUBILEE

INS Kalinga, the Technical Support Base of Eastern Naval Command at Bheemunipatnam celebrated its Silver Jubilee Anniversary on Sunday, 21 Nov 10. Commissioned on 21 Nov 1985, this year the establishment completed 25 years of glorious service to the Nation. To commemorate the milestone a Ships Bell was unveiled by the Chief Guest Vice Admiral Ganesh Mahadevan AVSM, VSM Chief of Materiel. A special day postal cover on Kalinga was also released on this occasion by Mrs. Sharada Sampath, Post Master General of Visakhapatnam. In keeping with the Naval tradition, a cake cutting ceremony was also held. At the station reception held in the evening, Vice Admiral Mahadevan released a Coffee Table Book covering the glorious journey of the Establishment.

SAINIK SCHOOL GOLDEN JUBILEE ORGANISING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT VISAKHAPATNAM

The third meeting of the Sainik School, Korukonda Golden Jubilee Organising Committee (SSKGJOC) was held today, 21 Nov 10 at Visakhapatnam. Chaired by Lieutenant General (Retired) KR Rao and attended by over forty ex-students and the present Principal of the School, Group Captain R Murali, the meeting was hosted by Commodore GV Babu, who heads the Visakhapatnam Chapter of the Association Saikorian. Following the Meeting, the members were joined by their families at a joyful picnic at the Yerrada beach. Sainik School Korukonda enters the Golden Jubilee year on 18 Jan 2011. Apart from car and cycle rallies being flagged off from various parts of the state so as to reach Korukonda on the Inaugural Day of the year, a host of activities are planned to be conducted all year round to commemorate the Occasion, culminating in a grand finale at the School on 18 Jan 2012. These include Tree Plantation, Sailing, White Water Rafting, a sponsored trip for select children from the school to Sri Nagar, Motor Arcade and Paragliding displays at Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. In an effort to ggive back to the School, Association Saikorian also proposes to construct a multi-purpose building in the School premises that will accommodate a Gymnasium and a Sports Complex. The Association also seeks to reconnect with all ex-students through sskgold@saikorian.org with a view to making the Event a grand success.

SOUTHERN REGIONAL MEET OF WIPS
The southern Regional Meet of 'Women in Public Sector (WIPS)' was organised in Centre for HRD of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.  The Southern Region consits of the States, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala.  The Meet was held to discuss the arrangements to be made for the forth coming National Meet of WIPS in February-2011. Dr. GBS Prasad, Executive Director (Personnel & CSR) of VSP was the chief guest of the meet.  Speeking on the occassion Dr.Prasad assured full support of VSP for the National Meet and WIPS activities. Smt. Rajeswari Arunachalam, General Secretary presented the activities of Southern Region.  Smt. PKM Lakshmi, General Secretary-WIPS, Visakhapanam welcomed the delegates.  Smt CR Seema, Vice President-Southern Region proposed vote of Thanks.

SPECIAL CHILDREN VISIT INS JALASHWA

As a part of the ongoing Navy Week celebrations, INS Jalashwa, a Landing Platform Dock, hosted special children from various schools of Visakhapatnam today, 19 Nov 10. Mrs Rohini Subhedar, wife of Rear Admiral AV Subhedar, VSM, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Eastern Naval Command and Mrs. Medha Murugesan, wife of Rear Admiral P Murugesan, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, graced the occasion. They interacted with over 115 Special children including wheel chair-bound children and 40 faculty members from Sankalp, Arunodaya Special School, Lebenshilfe, Omkar and Lions School for Deaf, Sunflower Special School, Bethany School, Mandala Vikalangula Sankshema Sangham and Pavani Institute. The children were given a guided tour of the ship and a feel of the nautical way of life that included a live demonstration of flight deck movements, personnel transfer by jackstay and the operation of the ramp by which various vehicles are disembarked/ embarked. Photographs depicting various Fleet activities undertaken all year round were displayed to familiarise the children with ships activities at sea. Thereafter, the children exhibited their cultural talent through a short variety entertainment programme. The games, magic show and singing competitions organised by the ship, followed by a sumptuous meal onboard had the children thoroughly enjoying themselves. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Rohini Subhedar, gave away prizes to the children who participated actively in the competitions. All children were given T shirts, caps and gifts by the Eastern Fleet, making their visit even more memorable.

PRINCIPAL MAINTENANCE OFFICERS COMMITTEE (PMOC) MEETING HELD AT ENC

A tri-service Principal Maintenance Officers Committee (PMOC) conference was held today, 18 Nov 10 at the Swarna Jyoti Conference Hall at the Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command. Lieutenant General Vijay Sharma, Master General of Ordinance, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army) and Chairman of PMOC presided over the meeting. The meeting was also attended by Vice Admiral Ganesh Mahadevan, Chief of Material (Navy),Air Vice Marshal SP Rajguru, Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (ACIDS), Air Vice Marshal R Chopra, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Maintenance Planning), Major General AV Subramanian, Additional Director General, Electronics & Mechanical Engineers and other delegates from the three Services. The PMOC is a sub-committee of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC). It is a tri-Service body whose main charter is to address the issues related to common areas of maintenance amongst the three services and evolve a policy with regard to common equipment/systems in three services viz. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Missiles, and Aircraft. The forum facilitates exchange of information between the services in respect of indigenisation, midlife upgradation, import substitution, repair overhaul, product improvement and support.

RINL & KIOCL JOINT OPERATION WING

Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel, Shri Virbhadra Singh inaugurated the Joint Operation Wing of RINL-VSP and Kudremukh Iron & Steel Company Limited for establishment of Mining and Value Addition Projects in the State of Karnataka on Sunday 14th November.The function was graced by Shri R. Ashoka, Hon’ble Minister of Home & Transport, Govt. of Karnataka, CMD-RINL Sri P.K. Bishnoi, CMD-KIOCL Sri K. Ranganath, Jt. Secretary-Steel, Shri George Illiyas, other senior dignitaries of Central & State Government.CMD-RINL, Shri P.K. Bishnoi profusely thanked both the Hon’ble Ministers for their assurance to allot mining leases to KIOCL & RINL. This Joint Operation Wing is definitely a right step for ensuring raw material security for both the companies who do not have captive iron ore mines. CMD-RINL was very specific about the benefits RINL shall get by way of value addition from the benefication of lean grade iron ore for iron making, production of Ductile Iron Spun Pipes (DISP), augmenting the BF grade coke making facility, usage of iron ore fines in the form of pellets to improve the Blast Furnace productivity and synergising the operational expertise of the existing facilities of both the companies.Shri R. Ashoka, Hon’ble Minister of Home & Transport, Govt. of Karnataka appreciated the efforts put in by the Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India and assured that the matter regarding allotment of mines to RINL & KIOCL shall be taken up with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka for expediting the process in a time bound manner

NAVY CHILDREN SCHOOL TEAMS RETURN VICTORIOUS FROM NATIONAL HANDBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The boys teams of the Navy Children School returned victorious on Monday, 15 Nov 10, from the Annual CBSE Cluster Championships held at New Delhi. The Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi conducted the Annual Event in the Under-19 and Under-14 categories for boys in which 24 leading schools affiliated to the CBSE from all over India participated. These National level matches were organised by Maharaja Agrasen Model School, Pitampura, New Delhi from 10-13 Nov 2010. In a keenly contested Final, the Under-19 team put up a good fight and beat H D Senior Secondary English Medium School, Jhajjar of Haryana, 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out and were declared Champions in their category of 2010. Chief Guest Pushkar Vora, AEO (Sports), CBSE, Delhi awarded the Champions Trophy to the winners and highly appreciated the Captains of both the Under-14 team, Aditya Pandey and the Under-19 team, Neeraj Saini for their leader ship skills that led their teams to victory. The zonal level matches were held earlier at Gnanabharati English Medium School, Ichapuram, Srikakulam from 27 to 31 Oct 2010 wherein the teams fielded by the Navy Children School, Visakhapatnam were declared South Zone Champions in both the categories. Mr T Singh, the Coach and Mr L V Ramana, the Team Manager had ably guided the team in their quest for Glory.

INDIGENISATION SEMINAR – INDSEM 2010 INAUGURATED

two day Seminar cum Exhibition INDSEM-10 got underway at Meghadri Auditorium at Naval Dockyard today, 15 Nov 10. The Seminar was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Anup Singh AVSM, NM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. This was followed by release of the Seminar Brochure, and inauguration of the Exhibition. The Admiral unveiled an ‘Indigenisation Trophy’ during the event. The rolling trophy would be handed over to the Naval Unit that makes the maximum contribution in the efforts of Indigenisation over the next year. Earlier, Rear Admiral Vijay Kumar Namballa, NM, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam) welcomed the distinguished guests and the delegates. Speaking on the Occasion, Vice Admiral Anup Singh stated that despite having been a laggard on the starting block, India has managed to garner its scientific and engineering talent to emerge amongst world leaders in many state-of-the-art technologies. He cited instances wherein defence R&D led to technologies for civilian or commercial use and how with time, in many cases, it has become the other way around. He hoped that with the opening up of defence sector, the wealth of creativity and technical competence of the private sector will make for meaningful contribution to the indigenisation programme. He expressed confidence that the Seminar would provide the desired fillip and focus to the Navy-Industry partnership to further the cause of indigenisation This is the sixth Indigenisation Seminar conducted by Naval Dockyard Vishakapatnam over the last seven years and the response from the industry was overwhelming. In all, over 100 representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and 88 industries were in attendance. Papers by eminent persons from the Indian Navy and Industry are being presented on sub-themes such as ‘Indigenisation-the Industry Perspective’, ‘Life Cycle Support for Indigenized Equipment’, ‘Self Reliance through Indigenisation’, ‘Standardisation - Need of the Hour’. As many as 66 stalls were set up by various firms showcasing their capability.

INDIAN NAVY BAND ENTHRALS PUBLIC AT SHIVAJI PARK

As part of the Navy Week celebrations, the Eastern Naval Command organised a public performance of Military Music with its team of 50 skilled musician sailors at Shivaji Park today, 14 Nov 10. The program was aimed at re-acquainting the music-loving public of Visakhapatnam with the professional capabilities of the personnel of the Naval Band.

The one hour package presented by the ENC Band commenced with the famous ‘Liberty Bell’ march and continued with traditional Big Band pieces and golden oldies of Telugu, Hindi and English. Many songs were also performed as vocals accompanied by wind instruments. Alex, Arul, Santhosh, Sreejith, Sagar, Charles and Pinaki Bhattacharya were some of the eminent musicians performing under Chief Petty Officers Shaikh John, MP Mandal and TV Raj. The program evoked a good response from the large numbers that witnessed the thrilling show by the men in uniform. The musical evening culminated with the popular patriotic song ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’.

The Eastern Naval Command Band was commissioned as the Band of INS Circars in the early 50s. The 26 men band of those times has emerged as a 50 piece Symphonic band today with a vision to develop further. Apart from enthralling the audience at Visakhapatnam and in all the major cities of the country, the Band has also enchanted audience overseas with its performances. Progressing from martial music, the band has widened its capabilities to include overtures, concerts, symphonies, solos and duets and other forms of contemporary music as well as Western and Indian classical music. The Band is led by its Director Lieutenant Commander VC D’Cruz, ably assisted by Master Chief Petty Officers PS Rao and P Kumar.

 The Naval Symphonic Band is also scheduled to perform a Concert of Western Classical and other forms of music during the forthcoming Navy Week celebrations.

ALL INDIA NAU SAINIK CAMP-2010 AT VISAKHAPATNAM

The All India Nau Sainik Camp-2010 of the National Cadet Corps commenced at the erstwhile Naval Maritime Academy of the Navy at the 9, IRSD Area on 10 Nov 10 and will terminate on 21 Nov 10. Rear Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, reviewed the participating cadets during a ceremonial parade held on today, 12 Nov 10. He congratulated the cadets for having been selected for the most prestigious event of Naval NCC and exhorted them to compete with all their heart and keep the ethics of fair play uppermost in mind.
Commodore MS Raghunathan, Group Commander of the NCC Group, Visakhapatnam is the Camp Commandant for this grand annual feature of the NCC Training Calendar that provides an opportunity for naval NCC cadets from all over India to interact with one another and promotes esprit de corps and national integration. The cadets train all year round in order to be selected for participation in this camp, which is the culmination of their training in the naval wing of the NCC.
A total of 590 NCC cadets from all 17 Directorates of the NCC have come together from all four corners of the country to pit their skills against one another in the disciplines of Boat Pulling, Ship-Modeling, Drill, Semaphore, Service Subjects, Seamanship Practicals and Firing as part of the NCC ethos of inculcating a healthy competitive sprit amongst its cadets. Apart from individual prizes and team trophies in all events, the cadets would compete keenly to outperform the others in all the disciplines so that they can carry home the overall Best Directorate Trophy.
The Camp would formally conclude with a Cultural Show and Prize Distribution Ceremony scheduled to be conducted at the Samudrika Naval Auditorium of the Eastern Naval Command on 18 Nov 10.

NAVY CHILDREN SCHOOL (KINDER GARTEN)
CELEBRATES ANNUAL DAY

The Kindergarten Wing of Navy Children School, Nausena Baugh celebrated its 35th Annual Day at Samudrika Auditorium today, 11 Nov 2010 with a dazzling display of talent with the theme of Indradhanush a Kaleidoscope of Colours and Seasons. The Entertainment Programme was woven around the theme of 12 months of a year and the seasons interspersed with the colours of the rainbow. The little ones put up a spectacular show of talent and held the audience spell bound with their confident and charming performances. The Headmistress Mrs T Anuradha Nagesh presented the Annual Report of the school.

The Chief Guest Surgeon Rear Admiral Manisha Jaiprakash, Command Medical Officer, Eastern Naval Command, applauded the little ones on their performances and conveyed her happiness at witnessing a splendid show. Navy Children School Management Committee members, Principal and dignitaries of the Eastern Naval Command were present on the occasion.

PRATIBIMB - 10 PAINTING COMPETITION HELD BY ENC

As a part of the host of activities scheduled to culminate in the Navy Day celebrations on 04 Dec 10, the Fleet Maintenance Unit of the Eastern Naval Command organised Pratibimb-10, a Painting Competition for children from schools of Visakhapatnam today, 07 Nov 10, at the Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium,. The event was graced by Rear Admiral SS Lal, VSM, Director General, Naval Projects (Visakhapatnam). Shri Ravi Shankar Patnaik, Head of Department, Fine Arts at Andhra University was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

Braving the inclement weather, nearly 1000 children from various schools including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Municipal, Naval and Private schools took part in the Event. The competition was held for children under three different categories of Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior Groups. Themes of Festivals of India and A View from Kailashgiri /Dolphins Nose were given beforehand to the Sub-Junior Group. The themes for the other groups given included Independence / Republic Day Parade and Marine Life /Bird Sanctuary for the Juniors, and Role of Indian Navy / Armed Forces in Disaster Management and Indian Navy -2020 for the Seniors.

Children from Special Schools were also invited once again to take part in the Event. The 30 children that participated in this category competed in two groups of speech/hearing impaired, who were given the themes of Garden /Zoo and Day in the Spring Season / Vizag Harbour and the differently-abled who were free to paint on any topic of their choice. A panel of four eminent artists from the Naval community evaluated the paintings and short-listed best paintings in each category. Awards for the Winners will be presented on 23 Nov 10 onboard an Indian Naval Ship during the Day at Sea program.

Take Faster Decisions : Director (Projects) of RINL

Mr. AP Choudhary, Director (projects) emphasized the need by officials should take faster decisions within frame work of rules, systems and procedure in the organization. Speaking as chief guest on the occasion of valedictory function of Vigilance Awareness Period- 2010 held in VSP, Mr. Choudhary complimented Vigilance department of VSP for successfully organizing various events to increase the awareness. He also released a book brought out by Vigilance Department titled ‘The Fight against corruption in Public life’.K Vidyasagar, CVO of RINL stated that all out efforts must be made to fight corruption as corruption is ‘anti-national’, ‘anti-development’ and ‘anti-poor’.In two separate sessions awareness programmes were conducted by vigilance department for the benefit of vendors, customers and contractors of VSP and officials of VSP about ‘anti corruption framework in position, the tools available to fight corruption, integrity pact, RTI Act and whistle blowers resolution. An inter school skit competition to spread awareness among students, teachers and parents and essay and slogan competition were also held in this connection. Prizes were awarded to the winners.Senior Officials of VSP, Representatives of Steel Executive Association, Union Leaders, school children and teachers from schools of Ukkunagaram participated. VSP observed "AP formation Day on 1st November. Mr. YR Reddy, GM (Corporate Personnel) garlanded Telugu Thalli Statue. Mantri Raja Sekhar, Maturi srinivasa Rao and Officials of VSP were present.

MISSILE SEMINAR AND TECHNICAL EXHIBITION INAUGURATED AT ENC

A Missile Seminar and Technical Exhibition was inaugurated at Samudrika Naval Auditorium today, 01 Nov 10, as part of the INS Kalinga Silver Jubilee Celebrations. The two day Seminar was inaugurated by the honourable Raksha Rajya Mantri Dr. MM Pallam Raju. Delivering the key note address, Vice Admiral Anup Singh, AVSM, NM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command stressed on the importance of healthy partnership between public and private industry in order to address the need of in-house Research and Development. He said that this will enable the Services to keep abreast of the latest trends around the world and ensure life-cycle support for the existing inventory. During his inaugural address, Dr. Pallam Raju touched upon the vital aspects of indigenisation of the countrys defence production. He stated that the emphasis on inducting indigenous products across the three Services as replacements has not only validated in-house development, but also enabled the three services to take a vital step forward in the standardisation of inventory fostering interoperability and commonality in maintenance procedures.

Being attended by over 150 delegates from Army, Navy, Air Force and the DRDO, the Seminar comprises Papers presented on varied topics including the Life Extension Philosophy of Missiles, Maintenance of Ground Equipment, Indigenous Missile Technology, Missile Testing, Training and Maintenance. The Seminar focusses on issues of life extension philosophies of vintage missiles and of the new induction integrated missiles. The procedures and policies followed in all three services arel being discussed in detail with a view to evolving a common methodology amongst the three services.

A separate industry session is also being held where reps from various industries present their technical expertise which in turn could foster industry participation to facilitate self reliance in defence sector.The technical exhibition has participation from major industries L&T High Precision Hydrauliks, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd and National Instruments. Major DRDO laboratories like DRDL, RCI and ANURAG are also taking part in the exhibition.

MISSILE SEMINAR AND TECHNICAL EXHIBITION AT ENC

A two day Missile Seminar and Technical Exhibition is being organised by INS Kalinga, under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command on 01 and 02 Nov 2010 at Samudrika Naval Auditorium. The Event being held as a part of the ongoing Silver Jubilee celebrations of Kalinga will be inaugurated by Honourable Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri MM Pallam Raju. Vice Admiral Anup Singh, AVSM, NM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command and Dr. VK Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri will also be attending the Seminar along with senior delegates from the Army, Navy, Air Force, DRDO and the Defence Industry. The forum will deliberate on many important issues related to indigenous missile technology and maintenance philosophy of current inventory of missiles in the Services. The participants at the Technical Exhibition will include DRDO Laboratories, Defence PSUs and Private Industry involved in development and production of missile systems.

INS Kalinga, a premier base of Eastern Naval Command was commissioned on 21 Nov 1985. This year the establishment completes 25 years of service to the Nation. Various events like Tree Plantation, Blood Donation, Medical Camps and distribution of sweets and clothes to old age homes have been conducted all year round to commemorate the occasion. A special day cover is also scheduled to be released to mark the silver jubilee. Further, in keeping with the Naval traditions, the Establishment will unveil a Ships Bell followed by a traditional cake cutting ceremony on its Anniversary on 21 Nov 10.

Noble Gesture by Visteel Mahila Samithi

Visteel Mahila Samithi of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant constructed two additional Class rooms at the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS), Konda Koppaka Village in Anakapalle Mandal of Visakhapatnam District with financial assistance from CSR department of VSP. The annexure blocks of ZPHS were inaugurated by Mr. PK Bishnoi, CMD of RINL on Saturday in the presence of local people’s representatives, staff and students of ZPHS of Konda Koppaka, Members of Visteel Mahila Samithi and officials of Corporate Social Responsibility Department of VSP.The ZPHS caters to the needs of about 700 children from the neighboring villages of Akkireddypalem, Sriramsettypalem, Batlapudi, Talarivanipalem, Rajupalem, Gopalapuram, EduravaniPalem, Sirasapalli, Salapuvanipalem, Golagam, Kothuru and yerukuvanipalemMr. Bishnoi Complimented VMS for the Gesture and conveyed his best wishes to the students of the Zilla Parishad School.On this occasion Mr. Bishnoi and Mrs. Anita Bishnoi, President of Visteel Mahila Samithi felicitated Smt. GV Lakshmi, teacher of ZPHS, Konda Koppaka who won State Level Award.
