The Chariot festival of Lord Jagannath was celebrated in
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant's township of Ukkunagaram with traditional gaiety and religious
fervour. The “first Citizen” of Ukkunagaram Sri PK Bishnoi, CMD of RINL and Smt.Anita Bishnoi offered prayers and traditional services to Lord Jagannath before the start of outward journey of the chariot in
Ukkunagaram on 24th June, 2009.

Praja Rajyam leader and Bhimunipatnam MLA M. Srinivasa Rao has sought the intervention of Minister for Labour R. Venkat Reddy to lift the lockout imposed by the management of Chittivalasa Jute Mills.
In a representation, the MLA described the lockout as illegal and blamed the management for continuing the lockout for one and a half month.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant observed 'World Environment
Day' with a function held at Training and Development centre auditorium on
5th June, 2009. Sri. PK Bishnoi, CMD was Chief Guest and Sri NV Bhaskara
Rao, Senior Environment Engineer of AP Pollution Control Board was Guest of
Honour.
Sri Bhaskara Rao appreciated the efforts of VSP in controlling 'carbon
emission' and 'discharge of effluents' and requested that efforts must be made for
'zero emission' and 'zero discharge', which is possible by Visakhapatnam
Steel Plant. As part of World Environment Day, Environment run and Plantation of trees was organized. Painting, Slogan, Essay and Poster Competitions were held for employees, house wives and children and prizes were awarded to the winners
