Sky Diving Camp at INS Dega Sky Diving Camp at INS Dega Sky Diving Camp at INS Dega

SKY DIVING CAMP AT INS DEGA CONCLUDES : A fifteen day Sky Diving Camp by the Indian Navy Sky Diving Training Team (INSDTT), held exclusively for lady officers of the Armed Forces concluded on 3rd July 09, at INS Dega, Visakhapatnam. Selection trials to form a Naval Contingent of lady officers were undertaken, wherein nine lady officers took part. Out of the nine, five have been short listed for inclusion in the Core Group of women officers forming an All Ladies Sky Diving Team to represent India at the World Military Games 2011.

The process had started in Oct 08, with the Navy selecting 05 lady officers. Following the Navys lead, the Indian Army had sought the services of the INSDTT in Apr 09, to train the Army women in sport skydiving, Cdr N Rajesh and Lt Cdr MV Birajdar of the INSDTT trained six lady officers to a level of solo skydivers. These ladies have now been integrated with the qualified Naval lady officers to form a core team which will represent India at WMG 2011. This team will be then be given advance training in body flights and formation techniques. They will also be taking part in the upcoming WMG 2010 to get a feel of competition at international level.

Sky Diving is the fastest non-mechanical sport in which skydivers exit the aircraft at an altitude of 12,500 feet, achieving a terminal velocity of 210 to 240 kmph before deploying the parachute at about 3000 feet, performing various maneuvers during their 50 seconds of free fall. The understanding of the effects of various body positions against such unbelievable air speeds has given birth to various disciplines of sky diving like 4-way formation, accuracy jumps and so on that are practiced and competed, the world over. Only few countries around the world have fielded their womens team in the last WMG. It would therefore be a matter of great pride to field a ladys team of our own, competing against the best in the world and winning the trophy.
