The 'Visakha Rail Mela-2009' organised by the East Coast Railway Women's Welfare Organisation, was formally inaugurated by the Divisional Railway Manager, D. Kamilla, at a colourful function at the Railway Stadium on 29th January, 2009. The fete with a variety of attractions to the visitors would continue till February 1.

A Ceremonial passing out parade was held at Shipwright School on 28th January, 2009, on the occasion of passing out of the 120th batch of Shipwright Apprentices from the School. The Chief Guest Commodore GV Babu, Commanding Officer, INS Circars, reviewed the parade and presented the Trophy for the ‘First in Overall Order of Merit’ to Vijay Rai, Shipwright Apprentice.

Flyover work progress near Sangam Sarat Junction, Visakhapatnam. This flyover will come up between Vemanamandiram on the Asilmetta side and the DRM's Office covering a distance of 1.1 km.

38th Senior National & Inter-State Carrom Championship 2008-09 held at Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium, Visakhapatnam on 12th January, 2009 organised by Carrom Association of Visakhapatnam District (CAVD) in association with Andhra State Carrom Association (ASCA) under the aegis of All India Carrom Federation (AICF).

Vice Admiral Raman Prem Suthan, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, accompanied by Mrs. Beena Suthan, arrived Visakhapatnam on 12th January, 2009, on a three-day visit to the Eastern Naval Command. The Flag Officer held discussions with Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief at the Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command. Thereafter, he chaired the 24th Steering Committee Meeting on Under Water Weapons (SCUWW) at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) and visited some Naval establishments.

Each muggu was unique and expressed individual creativity.
