Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) achieved an important
milestone today with the delivery of the 700 Passenger vessel, M.V. Kavaratti.
The vessel was delivered to the Union Territory of Lakshadweep in a simple
handing over ceremony on 27 June 2008. This ship is 120 mtrs long and has
a speed of 17 knots. The ship can carry 700 passengers and 200 T of cargo. The
ship has three independent Galleries and Dining Halls and Recreation rooms. The
ship also has a swimming pool and a heli deck. The ship is fully Air
Conditioned and has been built to World Class Standards. |
Passenger ships are most difficult to design and
build and thus very few shipyards in the world are capable of building
such vessels. Therefore, it is a matter of national pride, that such a
ship has been both designed and built by HSL designers and engineers
with their own efforts. HSL is the only Indian shipyard to have achieved
this unique distinction. This is 146th Ship delivered by HSL since
inception of the yard. The vessel was hand over by Commodore Naresh
Kumar, Director (Technical), HSL to Sri K.L. Syed Mohammad, Director
(Gen/Admn & Protocol) of UTL Administration in the August presence
of Sri. B.P. Rao, Vice President, SCI and Sri. George Paul, Principal
Marine Superintendent, LDCL, Kochi. Sr. Officers of HSL, Members of HS
Officers Association, HS Staff & Workers Union and other important
visitors were present. |
