Women looking at the jewellery made of
semi-precious stones put on exhibition at the Grand Bay Hotel on the 20th of
June, 2005. The exhibition was organised by Delhi-based jewellery house, Art
Karat. The jewellery house, which boasts of famous clients, has already
carved a niche for itself in the field of designer jewellery. They hogged the
limelight by designing jewellery for the film Devdas.

'Padmasri' Dr Sobha Naidu and her associates performing
'Sambhavami Yuge Yuge', a 'Kuchipudi nrutyarupakam' organised by the
Department of Tourism and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh at
Kalabharati Auditorium on the 11th of June, 2005. 'Sambhavami Yuge
Yuge', highlighted contemporary issues like education system, cultural
invasion, neglect of aged and also solutions to these issues from
'Bhagvatgita'. Lord Krishna role was played to perfection by renowned
Kuchipudi dancer Dr Sobha Naidu who brought international acclaim to the
Kuchipudi art.

Studies (CESS), Hyderabad and School of Economics, Andhra University, at
Hotel Daspalla on the 11th of June, 2005. The theme of the workshop is 'Role
of Institutions'. Prof Ramachandrudu, Head of the Department, School of
Economics is also seen.

at Hotel Grand Bay for his crusade against the plans of Andhra Pradesh State Government to
commercialize the old Central Prison site. The award was presented by the UNESCO
Club, Visakhapatnam on the occasion of 'World Environment Day'.

Sansthan, Sri Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad (M) presenting 'Vrikshamitra' award
to Ballivada Dhanunjaya Rao (L), Chodavaram Forest Range Officer for
conservation of forests and increasing the greenery in Chodavaram. The award
was constituted by an NGO called POWER (Peoples Organisation for Welfare in

The Chief guest of the function, Prof. D. Harinarayan, Director, School of Distance Education, Andhra University giving away the prizes to the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets on the concluding day of Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-1) at Port Primary School, Saligramapuram on the 24th May, 2005. Over 700 cadets belonging to the three districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam participated in the 12-day camp conducted by 2-Andhra Composite Technical Regiment, NCC under the guidance of Lt Col D. K. Singh Deo as camp Commandant. The Group Commander of Visakhapatnam NCC group, Capt A. V. S. Ramesh was also present.

jute handbags at the exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts of Kalinga
Handicrafts Industrial Cooperative Society. "This is the first time we
are setting up such an exhibition in Visakhapatnam. We've been to Chennai and
Bangalore several times, and the response is always great. We hope its going
to be the same here." says Mr Jatin Kumar Sahu, the President of the
Cooperative Society based in Orissa.

Mr Ikrar Hussain with his
handiwork at the exhibition-cum-sale of Orissa Handicrafts at Maharashtra
Mandal. Hailing from Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh, he has been a member of the
Kalinga Handicrafts Industrial Cooperative Society for about 10 years and
travelled with the society all over India. Talking about his work, he says
"This kind of work on brass objects is called 'meena' work and is
entirely handmade. At every such exhibition we make about Rs. 30000 to Rs.
40000." Another member, Mr Raghunath Ray from Cuttack specialises in
Silver Filigree, which is a tedious manual process of carving silver
jewellery. He likewise earns roughly Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40000 at each
exhibition.

p.m. and will continue till the 12th of June, 2005.
