Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, has won the ‘Team championship’ and Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) of Hyderabad was the runner-up in the three-day DRDO Central Zone Volleyball Tournament-2015 which concluded here on Friday. A total of 16 matches were conducted in the league-cum-knock-out tournament.
Pool ‘A’ – 4 teams: Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) of Hyderabad; Integrated Test Range (ITR) of Chandipur (Odisha) and NSTL.
Pool ‘B’ – 5 teams: DMRL, Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI) of Hyderabad; Solid Fuel Complex (SFC) of Jagdalpur and Proof & Experimental Establishment (PXE) of Balasore (Odisha).
NSTL and DLRL bagged the 1st & 2nd places respectively in Pool ‘A’ and DMRL and DRDL secured the 1st & 2nd places respectively in Pool ‘B’. Finally, NSTL has won the ‘Team Championship’ and DMRL has stood as runner-up. National-level referees B. Srinivasa Rao (Eastern Railway) and Mohana Rao (Vizag Steel Plant) of Volleyball Federation of India were the referees for this tournament.
