Budding cricketers told to stay focussed

Be it a game of cricket or life, discipline is important and playing cricket disciplines a person, said former Rector of Andhra University A. Prasanna Kumar.He was speaking at the valedictory function of the month-long cricket coaching camp conducted by the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) in association with The Hindu and Essar Group, here on Friday.

According to Prof. Prasanna Kumar, cricket is not only the noblest game but also a great teacher and leveller.He urged the young minds to stay focussed, pick up the valuable points from the coaches and also appreciated the parents for encouraging the children to learn the game.
VDCA secretary K. Parthasaradhi said about 300 children attended the coaching camp and coaches have spotted a few talented players.
He said the VDCA and he in particular would be happy if some of them could rise to the higher formats of the game and even represent the country.
Mr. Parthasaradhi also advised the budding cricketers to balance education and games.
The VDCA has selected 350 youngsters for the coaching camp, out of 1,000 participants, who attend the selection trials.
The camps have been conducted for the age groups of 12, 14, 16 and under -19.
The camps have been organised at five centres such as the GVMC stadium, Coromandel Fertilizers Campus Township ,Ukku Stadium in Steel Plant Township and Bheemilipatnam and VDCA stadium “B” ground in Madhurawada.
VDCA vice-president D.S. Varma, joint secretary J.K.M. Raju, Sanjeev, Bhogendra Babu, former Ranji captain and present coach Chandrasekhar Rao, Ranji player M.S. Kumar, and office-bearers of the VDCA, coaches and members were among those present at the programme.
