Racy tunes pep up Dandia show:

The sounds of Dandiya sticks dominated Ila Arun’s peppy number ‘Rangeelo maro dholna’ as women and youngsters swirl around in glittering ghagras , matching their rhythmic movements with fast beats. After a few minutes, a group of women came together to perform a folk dance. The scene again changed to a racy tune of disco Dandiya that kept the celebration mood alive.
For those who feel that Dandiya adds to the glitz of Navaratri festivities, the dance floor provided an opportunity to prove their creative skills. At the ‘Fusion Dandiya’ organised by Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Mandal on Wednesday, women had a whale of a time dancing away to glory.
With fusion as the theme for the day, a lot of innovativeness has gone into getting ready for the Dandiya evening. While some turned up in palazzos and short blouses, a few others teamed their colourful ghagras with a T-shirt, completing the look with attractive trinkets. “It took almost a couple of weeks to get ready for the event. This ghagra set was sourced from Rajasthan. “We tried different accessories to give that ‘waw’ effect to the new look. Finally, this is the outcome,” exclaim Kanchan and Savitha, youngsters who took part in the programme held at Hotel Green Park here. While some invested in clothes exclusively for the purpose, a few others focused more on accessories. “These trinkets were bought in Ahmedabad. Since we wanted to experiment something new with our costumes, we tried this rare collection,” says Shalu Agarwal, president of the mandal. An exhibition of traditional ghagras was held at the venue and its proceeds will go for charity.
