Bala Vasantha Hela cultural summer camp:

Summer camp concludes:

Children displaying their skills at the valedictory of the month-long Bala Vasantha Hela cultural summer camp for children at Sri Krishna Vidya Mandir in Visakhapatnam.

With an aim to motivate children towards Indian culture, arts and literature apart from inculcating a feeling of patriotism a month-long cultural summer camp – Baala Vasanta Hela – was organised at Sri Krishna Vidya Mandir here.

The summer camp that concluded on Sunday evening saw 60 children actively participating and learning music, dance, slokas and padyams, among others.

The camp conceptualised by Carnatic music exponent Manda Sudharani and her husband M.V.J.M. Ramaprasad, a doctor and ardent lover of arts, was inaugurated by Sivananda Murthy in April.

The children had presentations about great Indian personalities like Rabindranath Tagore, Sri Krishnadevaraya, Chanakya and some modern day heroes like Major Somanath Sarma and Vikram Batra, among others. Apart from daily music classes, slokas, padyams, stotras and stories were taught.

Further, the children were also exposed to a 16-day Harikatha programme by ‘Harikatha Chakravarthy’ Kota Satchidananda Sastry to help them appreciate such arts, which are on the verge of extinction. The children gave a performance of what they had learnt at the camp.

The children presented ‘Siva Thandava stotram’, which is one of the toughest of all to pronounce.
