Son of a businessman in the city was arrested by the Three Town police on the charge of raping his prospective bride and demanding huge amount as dowry.
The arrested was identified as P. Parvish, son of P. Satyanarayana, a resident of Daspalla Hill layout.
CI Tirumala Rao said that the accused was engaged to the daughter of a senior police officer in December 2014. The wedding date was also fixed.
Thereafter, as per the complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, the accused not only had physical contact with the girl but also demanded a dowry of Rs. 1 crore.
When it was refused, the accused had snapped all contacts with the girl’s family, cancelled the wedding, and had been absconding, said Mr. Tirumala Rao.
The parents of the girl lodged a complaint on December 17, 2014. Subsequently, the police launched a manhunt. It was learnt that late on Tuesday night, the accused surrendered to the police.
The police registered a case against him under Section 376 of the IPC.
