A woman, along with her parents, on Sunday approached the Bheemunipatnam police seeking registration of a case against her relative and Army soldier C. Ramana, who allegedly raped her after promising to marry her.
According to reports, the woman, a resident under the Bheemunipatnam Police Station limits, fell in love with Ramana, a native of the Rellivalasa area in Vizianagaram district, five years ago.
The woman’s parents also accepted the relationship and even financially supported Ramana to get employment in the Army.
Protest
Ramana allegedly promised to marry the woman and sexually exploited her on several occasions, but kept avoiding marriage citing his family’s reluctance.
The woman, who came to know that Ramana had been trying to marry another person for more dowry, staged a protest along with her relatives in front of the latter’s house in Vizianagaram on Saturday.
‘Verifying facts’
Inspector of Bheemunipatnam T.A. Naidu said that they received the complaint and were verifying the facts.
