A special police team of One Town police station arrested two persons for allegedly trying to cheat aspirants at the ongoing army recruitment rally being held at Indira Priyadarshini Stadium here on Monday.
The arrested were identified as Allu Ganesh (29) and G. Simhachalam (25), both natives of Vizianagaram district.
According to One Town police station SHO Illyas Mohammed the duo had come a few days ago and observed the recruitment process.
They created a fake stamp, which is used to certify the candidates who have passed the initial height test.
On Monday, they identified a candidate by name G. Viswanath also of Vizianagaram district and who failed to clear the height test.
“They promised to get him stamped, assuring that they had contacts with the army officials. They also collected Rs. 5,000 from him. But when the negotiation was going on, the members of special party who were present in the vicinity in mufti, apprehended the duo,” said the SHO.
The accused were booked under IPC Sections 420 and 484, and the fake stamp and cash of Rs. 5,000 was seized from them. Both the accused have been sent to remand.
