Three traders jailed:

Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (FAC) A. Moses on Tuesday found K. Peer Mohammed, proprietor of New Raja Stores at VT College, Sriharipuram, guilty of adulterating ‘channa dal’ by adding artificial colour to it, and sentenced him to two years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 5,000.

In another case, the Third ACMM in-charge found owners of two kirana shops guilty of adulterating pulses and sentenced each to two years; rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 5,000.

Patnala Ramana Murthy, owner of Venkata Janardhana Home Needs Shop on the High School Road, Gajuwaka, and Vadde Chidanandam of Ayyappa Kirana and General Stores, Gajuwaka, were the traders. In a third case, the ACMM found car driver Nunnaguppala Satya Rao guilty of rash and negligent driving, which led to the death of a motorcycle rider and caused injuries to the pillion rider at Auto Nagar junction, and convicted him to one-year RI with a fine of Rs. 500.
