The city police arrested three members of a gang from Hyderabad on the charge of housebreaking here on Wednesday.
The arrested were identified as J. Sai Kumar (19), M. Naveen Kumar (19), and B. Srinu (20), all residents of LB Nagar in Hyderabad.
ADCP (Crime) S. Varada Raju said that the accused were nabbed during routine checking of lodges in the city. The three behaved suspiciously at a lodge under Maharanipeta police station limits, he added. Upon checking their baggage, the police recovered cash of Rs. 1.4 lakh and gold and silver items without proper records.
Mr. Varada Raju said that the accused had burgled a house in Meerpet area of Hyderabad on August 26 and made good with 16 tolas of gold and silver articles, and cash of Rs.1,44,000. The stolen booty was estimated to be about Rs. 6.5 lakh.
“After committing the offence, they purchased three mobile phones and moved to Visakhapatnam for holidaying. They landed in our net during routine checking of lodges,” said Mr. Varada Raju.
