Anti Corruption Bureau caught a tax collector of the GVMC red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.2,500 from a complainant on Thursday.
ACB DSP K. Ramakrishna Prasad said the accused, G. Koteswara Rao, of ward number 28 demanded a bribe of Rs. 6,000 from the complainant for mutation of apportioned property following the death of the father-in-law of the complainant. He demanded the bribe for sub-division of the property, fixation of tax, and issuance of assessment order, said Mr. Ramakrishna Prasad. The accused had already collected Rs. 4,000 from the mother-in-law of the complainant about a month ago and further demanded Rs.2,500. Vexed with the harassment, the complainant approached the ACB. The ACB team laid a trap and caught Koteswara Rao while accepting the bribe amount at his office in Zone III.
