A second year B. Tech student of a private engineering college in the city, U. Teja Kumar, was arrested by the PM Palem police in connection with burglary cases.
According to PM Palem Inspector Appalaraju, the student, a resident of BC Colony, Yendada, was inspired by movies and took to burglary to lead a high-flying lifestyle.
ACP (Madhurawada) D. Ravi Babu said that the student was involved in three burglary cases in Yendada area under the PM Palem police station limits. The police recovered over 220 gm gold ornaments and two watches from him.
Armed with an iron rod and a hammer, the student would roam the Yendada area in the night seeking locked houses. Between February 12 and May 7, he committed three offences.
In the first offence he burgled 180 gm of gold ornaments and two wrist watches, in the second case he decamped with 30 gm of gold ornaments and in the third one he made good with 10 gm of gold ornaments, one digital camera, and two mobile phones.
He was caught by the police when he was moving around the area suspiciously on Monday night. He had confessed to the crime, said ACP Ravi Babu.
