An altercation over a mobile phone led to stabbing of an Intermediate student at Sujatha Nagar in the city.
Though the incident occurred on Wednesday, it came to light on Thursday after the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the Pendurthi police.
B. Girish Kumar, a first year Intermediate student of Chaitanya College, NAD Campus, admonished two of his classmates for allegedly stealing the mobile phone of his friend, who is also a student of the college.
Later, the accused returned the mobile phone to its owner, but in a damaged condition.
Girish once again scolded the accused and wanted them to pay Rs.3,000 to get the instrument repaired.
Stating that their uncle would pay the money, the accused took Girish in an auto-rickshaw to an isolated place in Sujatha Nagar on October 7, where they allegedly inflicted stab injuries using push-button knives on Girish’s face, neck, ribs, and hands.
Girish managed to escape and the accused too took to their heels.
Girish reached home with the help of locals and he was rushed to King George Hospital (KGH), where he was discharged after treatment.
A case was registered under Section 326 of the IPC (voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons) against the accused.
“The accused are absconding and a case under Section 307 of the IPC will be registered if it is found to be a case of attempt to murder,” inspector K. Lakshmana Murthy said.
