The district police seized two trucks carrying about 1.5 tonnes of dry ganja and arrested six persons in Hukumpeta mandal in Visakhapatnam district on Monday. The trucks were moving from Hukumpeta via Paderu for onward journey to Visakhapatnam, when the police on a tip-off, intercepted the trucks at Baramguda junction.
On initial inspection, the police did not find the contraband stuff, but after a detailed inspection they located it neatly packed in a concealed and specially fabricated pockets on the rear side of the driver’s cabins.
In all, the police seized 282 packets hidden in the trucks. The seized stuff was said to be worth about Rs. 1 crore in the drug market.
The arrested persons included drivers of both vehicles. However, one person, on seeing the police, jumped off the truck and escaped, said a senior police officer.
