The city police on Tuesday arrested a youth who allegedly made good with cash of Rs.2.5 lakh after breaking into Navodaya Vidyaniketan School located in the Arilova area.
The accused, V. Bangarraju (19), is working as watchman at the school. He is a resident of Poosapatirega mandal of Vizianagaram district.
Inspector Ch. Dhanunjaya Naidu said that school correspondent B. Bhaskar Rao lodged a complaint stating Bangarraju, who was recently appointed, broke into the office room in the early hours of November 29 and stole a sum of Rs.2.5 lakh kept in the almirah. ACP (Madhurawada zone) D. Ravi Babu said that Bangarraju was addicted to vices, and to fund his habits he had committed a number of thefts in the past at his native village. After he was shunted out of his house a year ago, he moved to Vijayawada to a friend’s place. “Even there, he stole his friend’s motorbike and shifted to Rajahmundry where he robbed his neighbour of Rs.20,000 and moved to Visakhapatnam,” he said.
