Sanitary inspector lands in ACB net for accepting bribe

The officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Rattapu Ravi Kumar, who was working as a sanitary inspector in the public health wing of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Bheemili zone in Visakhapatnam on Friday (31-05-2019).

Ravi Kumar was arrested by ACB for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a Kolluru Rama Surya Manikanta.

According to ACB officials, Manikanta is the owner of a store called Uttam Food Products, located at China Bazaar in Bheemili in Visakhapatnam. On May 17, GVMC officials found that Manikanta was running his store without a valid trade license and was reusing edible oil while make snacks. GVMC officials issued a seizure notice to Uttam Food Products.

When Manikanta contacted Ravi Kumar, he demanded a bribe in lieu of imposing a lesser fine and not referring to the case of reusing edible oil to food safety officials. Harassed by Ravi Kumar, Manikanta approached the ACB. After verifying the facts, DSP of ACB, K Ranga Raju trapped Ravi Kumar while accepting a bribe and arrested him.
