Public Prosecutor seeks potency test on accused in Vakapalli rape case

Special Public Prosecutor for the Vakapalli gang-rape case Sunkara Rajendra Prasad on Monday (12-11-2018) argued for a direction from the Sessions Court to conduct the potency test on the accused.

He reminded the court that this crucial test was not conducted earlier during the investigation stage, which he termed as another lapse in the investigation conducted by the CB-CID.

The lawyer for the accused opposed the petition and said such a test can be conducted only during the stage of investigation and not at such a belated stage. However, the Special Public Prosecutor informed the court that no such fetters were placed on the power of the court to order the potency test.

On August 20, 2007, 11 adivasi women of Vakapalli village in Nurmati panchayat of G. Madugula Mandal in the Agency region of Visakhapatnam district, were allegedly gang-raped by 21 personnel of AP Special Police, who were on combing duty in the Naxal-affected areas.

The case is now posted for orders on November 19.
