Hearing on a petition filed on Wednesday seeking five day police custody of the four accused, including a professor of Andhra University J. Appa Rao who were arrested by the Narsipatnam town police on the charge of supplying explosives to the Maoists, will come up for hearing in the court of the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate-cum-Excise and Prohibition which is the designated court for Maoists’ cases.
Advocate of Prof. Appa Rao, N.H. Akbar said he would submit his objections to the Magistrate Aruna Sree on Friday.
Mr. Akbar said he was not allowed to meet Prof. Appa Rao at the Central Jail when he sought an interview on Thursday.
According to the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission, advocate of the accused must be present while accused is being interrogated under police custody, the advocate said.
Mr. Akbar has also filed bail petition on behalf of Prof. Appa Rao, listed as A 4 in the case, in the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ganesh Babu on Monday and the petition would come up for hearing on November 18.
