A Central Crime Station (CCS) team led by Inspector Raghu Srinivas arrested a thief who indulged in a different modus operandi to steal gold ornaments from gullible women.
The accused identified as Jampana Pulam Raju (50), working as a foreman in VSP, would target lonely women and befriend them under the pretext of helping them with their daily chores .
After a few acquaintances and gaining their confidence he would go to their house and involve them in a friendly chat. According to ADCP (Crime) S. Varada Raju, he would get so close that the women would start trusting him and reveal where the gold ornaments were kept. And seizing an appropriate opportunity, he would make good with the ornaments. Recently, he befriended one such woman near the Sub-Registrar Office in Akkayyapalem and after a few meetings stole about 160 gms of gold ornaments from her house. Basing on the woman’s complaint, the CCS team investigated and arrested him on Tuesday morning.
The ADCP cautioned that women should exhibit some amount of caution before getting friendly to unknown persons; even if they try to lend a helping hand.
Woman thief arrested
In another case the CCS team and the Bheemunipatnam police arrested a 50-year-old woman for stealing a gold chain from a woman after threatening to kill the victim’s infant child. According to the police, the accused R. Hymavathi forcibly entered into the house of B. Bhavani in Adarsh Nagar at Tagarapuvalasa and threatened to kill the months-old-baby if she did not part with her gold chain.
