Judge of the Sixth Additional District Court-cum-Mahila Court A. Vara Prasada Rao on Monday found Sheik Ali Basha guilty of killing a woman by setting her on fire and sentenced him to undergo life imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 under Section 302 of IPC.
According to APP S. Ramamurthy Naidu, Basha, 43, working as a cook at a tiffin parlour in Maddilapalem harassed B. Santoshi, 32, of Tagarapuvalasa who was living alone in a hut on the MVP Colony double road after parting with her husband, demanding sexual favour, which she refused. Late in the evening on June 10, 2011, Basha poured kerosene on Santoshi while she was taking bath at a makeshift bathroom near her hut and set her afire.
