A 55-year-old person attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze at China Waltair after GVMC demolished his grocery store on Friday.
The victim, G. Nookaraju (55), a resident of Rangireeju veedhi of Poorna market, is being treated at KGH with around 40 per cent burns and is in critical stage.
The shopkeeper had constructed the grocery store in GVMC land allegedly encroaching the area near the masjid in China Waltair and had been running it since many years.
Notice served
The police said that a couple of days ago, the corporation served demolition notice after receiving complaint from the builder.
On Friday, the police were asked to give protection for demolition.
