The Three Town police on Monday arrested a person, Karapati Sudhakar, on the charge of killing his father-in-law Parapathi Venkata Rao.
Giving details of the case, ACP P. Ramana said that according to the complaint, Sudkhakar went to the house of Venkata Rao in China Waltair area on November 24 around midnight and beat up his father-in-law with a stick causing serious injuries.
Venkata Rao’s daughter Karapati Keerthi and her mother woke up and came to his rescue. The accused also attacked both women causing head injuries to them. All the three injured were admitted to King George Hospital where Venkata Rao succumbed to his injuries on November 27, said the ACP.
Sudharkar confessed that he attacked Venkata Rao. Sudhakar and Keerthi were married seven years ago and the couple has two sons. Soon after the marriage, Sudhakar, who is a cook by profession, allegedly started harassing her for more dowry. The couple moved into a separate house on the advice of elders.
On October 30, Sudhakar allegedly made an attempt to kill her by strangulating her. She escaped the attempt and moved to her parents’ house in Relli Veedhi in China Waltair. Thereafter, the accused has been pestering her to return but Keerthi’s parents refused to send her, fearing threat to her life.
