The Arilova police on Monday arrested two persons on charges of kidnap of a girl and robbery.
The arrested were identified as Podilapu Suresh Kumar (25) and a juvenile in conflict with law; both residents of the Arilova area.
ACP (Madhurawada) D. Ravi Babu said that Suresh Kumar was a habitual offender. He was also involved in one attempt-to-murder case, two cases of kidnap and rape, and 16 cases of theft under various police station limits in the city.
He is also a suspect-sheeter.
After his release from the Central Prison in the city in March 2015, Suresh Kumar had moved to Chennai. He returned to the city recently.
Mr. Ravi Babu said that on September 18, Suresh Kumar relieved autorickshaw driver J. Sai of his money at knifepoint at Balajinagar and sped off in the vehicle. On the way to Arilova in the stolen vehicle, Kumar picked up his juvenile friend, and the duo decided to rob a passenger.
A 21-year-old girl, who was waiting at Arilova to go to Hanumanthawaka Junction, boarded the autorickshaw.
After travelling some distance, Suresh Kumar diverted the vehicle with an intention to rob the woman passenger. But the vigilant girl alerted her relatives over phone.
The accused forcibly took the girl to Mudasarlova area and relieved her of her jewellery, which included a chain, a ring, ear-studs, and mobile phone, said Arilova Inspector Ch. Dhanunjaya Naidu.
Suspecting that they would be traced, the accused beat up the girl, pushed her into the bushes, and fled from the spot in the autorickshaw.
Based on the complaint lodged by the girl and Sai, the police, led by Mr. Dhanunjaya Naidu and Sub-Inspector (Crime) Kantha Rao, investigated the case and arrested the duo. The stolen property and the autorickshaw were recovered.
