A three member gang with weapons forcibly gained entry into the house of Nakkapalli Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) at Anakapalle and made good with about 20 tolas of silver and some cash on Monday night.
According to the Anakapalle police, the robbers, wearing masks, came around 10 p.m., knocked at the door and, when it was opened by MPDO D. Krishna, they overpowered him and his neighbour who was present at the time. After collecting the silver articles, they asked for cash. And when he did not have anything, they took his ATM card and made him divulge the PIN. While one was kept as a sentry, the other two went to the nearest ATM counter and drew about Rs. 3,500. With the money they brought some beer and returned. Then they made the MPDO cook for them and consumed the beer.
In the meanwhile, the wife of the neighbour grew suspicious, as her husband did not return for over three hours. She approached the house, and before the robbers could also catch her, she fled and raised an alarm. Seeing this, the robbers fled. The police suspect that it could be an inter-state gang from Bihar. The police are investigating.
