KGH doctor trapped:

The ACB has booked a case against an assistant surgeon in the KGH for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 40,000 from a patient.

Dr. G. Ramakrishna and two ward boys were booked for demanding the amount for conducting an emergency surgery on an accident victim.

The incident was brought to the notice of the ACB when it conducted a surprise check of various departments in the hospital on July 1.

According to ACB DSP Narasimha Rao, B.V. Chandrasekhar of Islampeta, an attender at a ZP school in Pendurthi, met with an accident on June 6. He was brought to the KGH Trauma section in an unconscious state. “The doctor told his relatives that an emergency surgery of the head was necessary and it would cost Rs. 80,000 in a private hospital. But. he also told them that he would do it for a sum of Rs. 40,000. Being a family from the BPL segment, they bargained for Rs. 20,000, and the surgery was performed and the patient survived,” said Mr. Narasimha Rao.

But the entire negotiation was recorded in a cellphone by one of the relatives. The recording was handed over to the ACB sleuths. After conducting investigations, the case was booked.
