The Gajuwaka police booked a case against one Kanaka Raju, who claimed to be a journalist working for a Telugu daily -- Chaitanya Varadhi -- for allegedly trying to extort money from some persons.
According to Gajuwaka Police Station SHO M. Apparao, the accused posed as a reporter of the daily and threatened to file a negative story about a house that is being constructed by one A. Madhavi at Srinivasa Nagar in China Gantyada area, under Gajuwaka Police Station limits, if he was not paid Rs. 10,000.
Unable to bear the harassment, Madhavi and a few of her relatives and friends, thrashed up the ‘reporter’ and handed him over to the police on Wednesday.
“We have booked a case based on the complaint. We are even enquiring about the veracity of the newspaper and the accreditation card that the accused has in his possession,” said Mr. Apparao.
