High pressure while the recovery process was on after mixing a solvent reportedly caused the reactor blast at Deccan Fine Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. at Rajavaram near Payakaraopeta in the district on Saturday in which two workers died.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that though there was no fire, heavy pressure might have triggered the blast injuring almost all the workers present in the block.
The workers fell ill mainly due to leakage of Dichlorometane, also known as methylene dichloride. “We will make a chemical analysis of the debris again. The exact cause of the blast will be known within a few days,” Inspector of Factories R. Trinadha Rao told The Hindu on Sunday.Immediately after the blast, power supply to the unit was switched off.
The factory also suspended its operations owing to pending clearance from various agencies. The police, led by Additional SP Vishal Guni, and RDO Surya Rao are also conducting separate probes.
