Concerted profiling of the passengers coming by Air India international flight AI-952 (Dubai to Vizag via Hyderabad) led to intelligence that attempt may be made to smuggle gold with the help of domestic passengers from Hyderabad.
On morning of 27.08.2014, a passenger by name Mr Bethireddy Padmanabha Srinivasa Reddy who arrived from Hyderabad by Air India flight AI-952, was intercepted by Customs Officers while he was trying to walk out through Green Channel.
On through examination of his baggage and person, 12 Gold bars totally weighing 1399.68gms were recovered from inner pockets of his pants. The market value of the Gold is Rs.39,39,000/-. The gold has been seized under provisions of Customs Act, and passenger has been arrested. Further investigation is on.
