Ex DSP jailed in robbery case:

Judge of Second Metropolitan Magistrate Railway Court M. Sridhar has sentenced retired Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Armed Reserve Police to two years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs. 1,500 for committing robberies in trains.

The convicted DSP was Prakruthi Appa Rao, native of Visakhapatnam and worked as DSP of the AR wing in Nizamabad.
According to Assistant public prosecutor Botcha Prameela, the police officer was caught by the Government Railway Police personnel while he was stealing a laptop and a few other items in an AC coach of a train at Duvvada Railway Station on October 27 in 2007 and he was arrested on the same day.
Over 12 cases were registered against the DSP for robbing electronic gadgets from the passengers in the trains across the state since 2006.
He is suspected to be a kleptomaniac, as he craved for robbing from important personalities, which included Speaker D. Sripada Rao and IG R.P. Meena.
GRP police have recovered three laptops, 12 mobile phones and a few other electronic goods and bedsheets and other property from his residence at Venkojipalem in the city.
Appa Rao had earlier filed a petition in the High Court stating that all the cases be brought to one court so that he could attend them without fail. The High Court agreed to his plea and transferred all the cases to Second MM Railway Court, in Visakhapatnam.
