An elderly couple was robbed of Rs.10,000 cash, mobile phones and gold jewellery by three unidentified persons in a car at Gajuwaka in the city on Thursday.
Inspector (Crime) of Gajuwaka B.V.G. Prasad said that at around 5.30 a.m., the elderly couple boarded the car, in which there were already three occupants, including the driver. The couple alighted on the Main Road near a theatre at Gajuwaka. They were about to give money to the driver, when one of the passengers in the car snatched the money, gold jewellery and mobile phones from them and sped away in the car. The couple noted down the registration number of the car and lodged a complaint with the police.
Investigation revealed that the couple had travelled in a stolen car and the miscreants could be from West Godavari district. The police said that the three accused had beckoned the car owner for a lift near Vijayawada and they stole the car after attacking the owner and throwing him out.
