Drunk driving: Man jailed:
A 38-year-old motorist T.N. Rao was sentenced to three-day imprisonment for drunk driving by the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate M. Venkata Rao, here on Monday. It was the fifth case of imprisonment for drunk driving in 2016 in the city.
ADCP (Traffic) K. Mahendra Patrudu said T.N. Rao was caught while riding a new bike with temporary registration number under the influence of liquor on June 25 by the Fourth-Town traffic police near Dondaparthi area in the city.

The court sentenced him to undergo three days of simple imprisonment and slapped a fine based on the traffic police report on the alcohol content in the blood. In 2015, the police booked about 17,946 cases and about 16,893 motorists were fined, but none was sentenced for imprisonment. This year so far about 7,167 cases have been booked and five motorists were sentenced by the court. The ADCP to appealed the motorists not to indulge in drunken driving as the police have been conducting surprise raids to book case against the tipplers.
