The City Task Force busted a cricket betting racket involving the ongoing IPL T20 championship, on Sunday night. The CTF also arrested two bookies and seized an integrated call receiving system containing 24 mobile phones, one laptop, one LED TV and cash to the tune of Rs.60,000. On a tip off, the CTF team led by ACP I. Chittibabu and Inspector Illyas Mohammed raided an apartment in Isukathota area. The arrested were identified as Mummaneni Ravi Chand and Thammadala Apparao. The duo was engaged in betting operation in a match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. According to ACP Chittibabu, the bookies have been operating in the city for the last two years and were well connected with high-ranking bookies at cities such as Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi.
Locally, the bookies would fix bets up to Rs. 10 lakh and beyond that the bets would be routed to the main bookies in metro cities, said Inspector Illyas Mohammed.
