Call money: ‘harassed’ trader attempts suicide:

A call money victim attempted suicide here on Monday night under the Gajuwaka Police Station limits.

A. Ramana, a private businessman and resident of Visweswarayya Nagar, obtained a loan of Rs.15 lakh from five private financiers residing in areas such as Anaparthi, Anakapalle, Gajuwaka, and the city.

Inspector M. Apparao said that Mr. Ramana obtained the loan at 6 per cent interest, which the financiers later increased to 15 per cent.

Mr. Ramana, in his statement, said that he attempted suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan hook in his house as he was being harassed by the financiers.

Mr. Ramana was rescued by his family members and shifted to a hospital, Mr. Apparao said. On Tuesday morning, Ramana, along with his family members, lodged a complaint with the police.

“We have booked a case and are on the lookout for the financiers, who are absconding,” said the Inspector.

34 cases booked

Ever since the racket came to light, the city police registered 34 cases.

All the cases will be shifted to the DFIT (Document Fraud Investigation Team) for investigation, Commissioner of Police Amit Garg has said.

According to DFIT Inspector Mani, the cases are yet to be transferred from the respective police stations.
