Bribe demanded by Vizag police for not arresting accused in PM Palem dacoity case

N Rakesh, a resident of Rajasthan was living in the city along with four accomplices, robbed 3-kg of gold belonging to a fellow businessman BV Ramana from Guntur district after threatening him at gunpoint in PM Palem. This incident dates back to August 2017. As part of the investigation, a team of four police personnel from Vizag have been stationed at Rajasthan where investigation was supposed to be under way.Two of the team have now been taken into custody.

The arrest has been done by Anti-Corruption Bureau of Rajasthan. Instead of arresting the accused and recovering the stolen booty, they were found to be demanding and accepting bribe from the accused for not arresting them. The arrested are Crime CI (North Division) RVRK Choudhari, SI Shariff (Parawada police station), SI Gopala Rao (MR Peta police station) and constable of One Town S Hari Prasad.

This matter came to light after the accused approached the local authorities of ACB. The continuous harassment by the Vizag police team had troubled the suspects in the PM Palem dacoity case. A trap was laid for them and the police are caught red-handed.
