Bank fraud: three sentenced to jail

The II Additional Special Judge for CBI cases N. Ananda Rao on Thursday sentenced three persons to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment each in connection with a bank fraud case.

The prime accused Ch. Lakshmi Kantha Rao, Branch Manager, State Bank of Hyderabad, Kothapeta branch, Guntur, entered into a criminal conspiracy with seven others during 1998-2001 to cause a loss of Rs.8 lakh to the bank. R. Vasudeva Rao, approved valuer of Guntur and B. Nageswara Rao, the then Field Officer/Loans Office, SBH, Guntur were convicted.

Two held on charge of stealing mobile phones

Two persons, including a juvenile, were arrested by the Three Town Police and 16 stolen mobiles were seized from them on Thursday.

Giving details to the media, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (crimes) S. Varada Raju said that Sankar Nonia (40) of West Bengal and his associate, a juvenile from Jharkhand, were taken into custody near the Seethammadhara Rythu Bazaar and expensive brands of mobile phones like Samsung, Apple, and Nokia were seized from their possession.

The modus operandi of the duo was to pick the pockets of public at the busy and crowded places including Rythu Baazars. The police said that the duo had sold some of the stolen phones in Southern Odisha for easy money.
