Vizag Crime Watch - Accused in housebreaking cases held

The city police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old youth and recovered 450 gm of gold, 1.5 kg of silver, three motorcycles, a car, and a few electronic gadgets from him.

M. Tirupathi Rao, an Intermediate dropout and a native of Vizianagaram district, was charged with committing 11 housebreakings in the city, nine of them during day time.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy told a media conference here that the accused had come to the city in 2008 in search of livelihood. He had taken to crime to earn easy money. He initially joined as car driver for Sandeep Biswas, a Navy contractor and a resident of Malkapuram.

In October 2011, Tirupathi Rao, along with his brother-in-law D. Chiranjeevi, murdered Biswas and made good with gold and cash on his person.

He was arrested in the murder case and sent to jail.

Upon being released on bail, he committed offences in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. Thereafter, he was arrested again. After release from Srikakulam District Jail in 2014, Tirupathi Rao committed 11 property offences in Visakhapatnam city.

Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy said that Tirupathi Rao had stolen a television and a camera from the ground floor of a locked independent house in Pithapuram Colony under MVP Police Station limits on May 30 this year. He had even stolen a car to escape with the booty.

Later, he gained entry into the first floor of the same building and stole 60 gm of gold ornaments and Rs.20,000 in cash.

Before leaving the spot, he wrote on the wall of the ground floor house that he was taking away a TV, a camera, and a car as there was no cash and gold in the house. He also noted that he had stolen 60 gm of gold ornaments and Rs.20,000 cash from the first floor.

Inspector of Crime, MVP Police Station, K.S.N. Konda, and his team arrested Tirupathi Rao.
