Officials of Anti Corruption Bureau conducted raids over the properties of former Visakha Rural tehsildar Majji Sankara Rao on Wednesday.The ACB cops simultaneously raided Sankara Raos properties at Gajuwaka, Vizianagaram, Bobbili, Srikakulam and Narsipatnam as well as his sons in-laws properties in Kotavuratla in Visakha district in the morning.The 59-year-old Sankara Rao had been absconding since the land scams and tampering of revenue records at Madhurawada and Kommadi areas had come to light.When the scam first came to light, the former tehsildar was suspended by collector Pravin Kumar. He, however, got a posting in Vizag allegedly with the help of some politicians. When the collector objected to his posting in the district he was shifted to Srikakulam. Following a complaint from district collector Pravin Kumar, a criminal case was registered against Sankara Rao in the missing land records case and he was again suspended by the government.Sankara Rao has been absconding since the criminal cases were filed against him for past two weeks. The ACB also raided the house of his sons mother-in-law who is the mandal praja parishat (MPP) of Kotavuratla.So far, ACB officials recovered over Rs 1.22 crore worth assets in the name of Raos wife, sons and a friend Satyanarayana. Ironically, the asset registered under the name of the tainted officer was only one Honda Activa Scooter. The ACB officials also seized documents on three plots with two houses in Bobbili, two plots in Chinagantyada in Gajuwaka, two house sites in Sabbavaram in Vizag district, one house site in Nakapalli and one benami site in Peddapuram in East Godavari district. A few documents were also seized from Satyanarayana in Bobbili, said ACB deputy SP K Ramakrishna Prasad.He said Sankara Rao has claimed that he was innocent in the land scams in Vizag city and also claimed that he has done a lot to protect valuable government lands. Rao claimed that preceding officers were involved in many scams and the officials have to investigate the angle to find out the truth.
