Two persons were arrested by the Payakaraopeta Police for allegedly trying to smuggle dry ganja here on Friday. The police also seized 80 kg. of dry ganja from them.
The accused were identified as N. Sudhakar a native of Kothagudem, Khammam district of Telangana State and B. Sai of Chodavaram, Visakhapatnam district.
Based on a tip off, a police team led by sub-inspector Ch. Harikrishna intercepted the car in which they were travelling on National Highway-16, near Payakaraopeta town bypass.
The cops recovered 40 packets of 2 kg. each, stuffed with the contraband, from the boot of the car. According to the police, the duo procured the stuff from various parts in the Agency area of Visakhapatnam district, and was trying to smuggle it to Hyderabad.
The cops have registered a case under various sections of NDPC Act, and investigation is on.
