The City Task Force (CTF) raided a house in Simhapuri Layout near Simhachalam under Pendurthi Police Station limits on Friday and seized 68 kg of dry ganja and arrested two persons.
The arrested were identified as Vechangi Ramakrishna (27), a native of Munchingput mandal, and Dumbari Syam Kumar of Anantagiri mandal.
CTF ACP I. Chittibabu said that the accused purchased the contraband from the Agency areas of the district and stored it in the house to sell it to peddlers and addicts in the city.
The police also seized two motorcycles and two cellphones from the accused. They were handed over to the police for further action.
On a tip-off, a team led by Mr. Chittibabu conducted a raid on Friday in Jeerupeta village of Bheemunipatnam mandal and arrested two women on the charge of selling illegally distilled arrack.
The arrested were identified as Chilla Lakshmi (45) and Koyya Venkata Lakshmi (50).
The CTF team also seized 110 packets of arrack weighing about 11 litres from their possession.
The CTF team counselled the villagers not to indulge in such activity as it may turn spurious and result in deaths.
