A special team of the Prohibition and Excise Department seized about 225 kg. of dry ganja, which has a market value of about Rs. 25 lakh, at Nellimetta junction at Narsipatnam on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip off, the team led by Inspector Jagan Mohan Rao, gave a hot chase to a Mahindra Bolero vehicle and intercepted it at Nellimetta junction. The Excise cops seized nine bags each weighing about 25 kg. and arrested four persons.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise M. Satyanarayana, the ganja was procured from the Odisha side of Andhra Odisha Border and was being transported to Tuni in East Godavari via Lambasingi.
The superintendent of the Excise Department at Anakapalli, DSRC Murthy said “Special teams have been formed to crack down on the smugglers”.
